hey guys, I do not currently own HPTuners,(I had to snatch Tunercats OBD2 when it was available for sale, its no longer available, even though it supports teh 96-97 Vortec and 96+ LT1).
Anyhow, If someone could please raise their rev limiter paramaters to 6500 rpm and see it the engien revs over 5800-5900 rpm. No one in North AMerica has been able to use the stock black PCM 96-00 and rev over 5800-5900 rpm.
The stock Vortec 305/350 limit is set at 5600 rpm.
I have even tried Hexing together a Camaro and S10 tunes to no avail.
If I set my rev limit to 7000 rpm, the tach and scanner wont read over 5800 rpm. I have used many of the popular North American Pro PCM tuners as well.( Ed Wright, Lyndon Wester, Nelsons, Mr Bubb etc) and even though thatcan indeed change teh tables, the PCM will shut teh injector pulsewidth to ZERO at 5800-5900 rpm)
If HPTuners can rev over 5800 rpm, I will be buying an HPTuners model, once and IF, you guys support the 96-97 models.
I have a marine intake manifold that uses 28 pph injectors.
heres a pic.

If HPTuners cant allow for 5800+ rpm limits I will have to do the 411 PCM swap and use a 2001-2002 Vortec 350 fullsize Express van cal file. This PCM and the Van cal.file has been tested to 6200 rpm in a Vortec 305 in a 1998 vortec truck.
here is a bunch of info on the 01-02 Van cal. file and 411 PCM swap.

And the marine intake swap to rid yourselves of the restrictive 400 crank hp limiting 19 pph poppet injectors.

Keep up the good work HPTuners, a good North American product.
So you guys with teh 98-00 Vortec L31/L30 beta, raise them rev limiters adn start wathcing teh tach wind up. ANd let me know.
HYESPEEDER, be carefull with taht L29 Vortec 454, I'd laugh if a 454 was the 1 to answer my questions. Those L29's can be made to work really well.
peace

So you want to see if I can rev to 6k lol
I will try it in about 30 mins 6k is the max it goes on the dash gauge lol
I hope it dont blow lol so far this engine has been very strong 160k miles and counting with no major issues.
Ya it wont rev past 5500 it hit 5700 but its a spike i guess
Please post a scan of when it happens or at least email it to support at hptuners dot com so we can review it & see why its happening.Originally Posted by HyeSpeeder

Its weird because on my supercharged 98 4.3 I was shifting at like 6000rpms without issue with just a hypertech back in the day.

Be careful how high you rev that thing, I can't imagine a 454 enjoys going up that high.Originally Posted by HyeSpeeder

I think the V8's react different because I've had my 97 4.3 up to 6K as well.Originally Posted by Bill@HPTuners

I wonder if its just a mechanical limit then. I was talking to Chris about it last night before hyespeeder even posted his results and he couldnt see anything in the 5700-5800 range that would limit things. Easy way to check would be to log injector pulse width when that "limiter" hits...if it goes to 0 its a rev limiter of some sort, if not its more than likely mechanical.

my money says the "crackling" noise is your valve springs crying out for help
The stock limitier is set down at 4900 for a reason on those big cubes...
I count sheep in hex...
lol
Did the scanner get any upgrades to support these vehicles or was it only the editor?
scanner & editor both got upgraded to further support these pcm's

I tired everything I can
I cant seem to figure out how to log the maf hz and there no way to log knock retard it seems like its not supported for the vortec
Could you post a screenshot of the insert pids-Engine-Airflow section of the scanner after you've hooked up to the vehicle & then clicked the Connect button like soOriginally Posted by HyeSpeeder
