    Fan Control Questions

Is the Ignition OFF Fan Run Time measured in seconds? I think it is but I just want to make sure so I don't kill the battery.

For Fan Stage One settings how do the MPH values affect fan operation? Are they a turn on or off setting and how do they relate to the temp settings?
    This is what I'm thinking:
If the engine temp is above the temp settings specified then the fans will run. They will stop if the temp falls below the off value. If the vehicle speed is lower than the min then they will turn back on. If it goes above the max they'll turn back off. Does this sound about right?

    Re: Fan Control Questions

Good questions that I would like to know about also.

Yeah, the fans turn on and off at the coolant temperature settings. After checking out the schematic, term FAN 1 and FAN 2 are kind of misleading and left over from the older system. FAN 1 turns on RELAY 1 which enables both fans to operate in series (low). FAN 2 turns on RELAYs 1, 2 &3 which enables both fans to operate in parallel (high).

I'm going to start playing with the other settings to see what happens.

I accidently overlaped the FAN 2 OFF and FAN 1 ON settings once and had all kinds of overheat problems.

Yes,they are measured in seconds..I have mine set at ECT 190* and run time is 15sec..If i turn off the ignition and the ECT's are above 190* they will run for 15..I have a set of fans from a LS1 camaro running off my A/C and PCM in my truck..

    Re: Fan Control Questions

The Fan MPH values are for low speed operation when the AC is on. ie. If your have the AC on, coolant temp is below the required, but at low speeds the fan will still enable to keep air circulating around the AC condensor (helping the AC work better).

Will update the help files, seems that one got missed.

Would anyone mind listing their settings for fan control?

    Re: Fan Control Questions

So the fan settings can NOT overlap?

    For example (*F):
    Fan 1: 215/210
    Fan 2: 220/210

The settings should NOT be set this way, is that correct?

Why is this a problem, does anyone know?

I don't see a problem with that as long as the motor drops below 210 when driving down the road. What you've asked it to do is turn the low speed fan on at 215, if the temp continues to rise to 220 then the high speed fan will kick in and neither of them will shut off until the temp dips below 210. There shouldn't be a problem with it setup this way.

    Re: Fan Control Questions

I just did my first tune today!..but it was only a fan temp change(still learning)

    Fan1 on 188
    Fan1 off 180

    Fan2 on 195
    Fan2 of 188

Left the A/C values where they were and brought the ignition off run time to 60 seconds @ 230ºF.

    Re: Fan Control Questions

I've had my fans setup like this for about six months now and it's worked very well for me ('01Camaro):

    Fan1
    On 203
    Off 199
    Min MPH 30
    Max PMH 35

    Fan2
    On 205
    Off 200

    Ignition Off
    Disable Temp 200
    60sec run time

EDIT:This is with a 180 stat. Normal temp going at a steady cruise down the freeway is 197*f, never gets lower than that.

I noticed while logging a cold start idle warmup cycle
that my ECT seemed pretty "notchy", like 2 degree
steps. I know there's some deal about when it gets
into normal range it jumps up to a different force
current to get resolution, but you probably don't
want to put fan thresholds any closer together than
2 degrees just so they don't tangle up.
