Put together the GM VPW page BIG thanks to Paul!

At the top, in the menu, check out the GM VPW page.

I basically compiled it this afternoon with many snippets from our beloved member, Paul..

For those of you that don't know, Paul is the Autotap and EFI Live guru.. and a true car guy at heart who is willing to share what he learns with us.

    Thanks Paul!

I hope you guys find the page informative. If you want me to add/modify anything just let me know.

I wish I knew somethign about the ford stuff. Mabye we could spark more ford interest if we had more info.

    - Keith

So I've been away for a while
Keith, thanks for the credit but most of that info is just published standards.
I had a quick look and I will post some corrections - my original posts were probably wrong/incomplete.

I only "remebered" to check this forum because of your post on ls1tech.com today.

    Regards
    Paul

    Welcome back Paul!

I owe you big credit on that page because you were the one who read that stuff and posted it on the forum. I copied and pasted quite a bit of your info.

I thnk the rs232/vpw bitmap is wrong.
I'm not an expert but can anyone confirm that RS232 +ve voltage is binary 0 and -ve voltage is binary 1.
My diagram has is backwards I think.

    Great info!

I did notice that the priorities are backwards. According to J2178-1 0 is the highest priority and 7 is the lowest.

I spent a good part of today working up a spreadsheet that will decode the 3 header bytes into semi-plain english according to the tables found in J2178-1-4. I might be able to clean it up a little and send it to you to add to your site.

I am also going to try to expand it to decode the data bytes according the PRN's and SLOT's in the standard if I get more time.

I am using the ELM 322 and have the spreadsheet setup so you can dump a section of a hyperterminal captured text file into it and decode all the headers in one shot.

Yes, you're right - I got them back to front.
Magnus - can you change the info on the vpw page to reflect vortec62's correction?

    Paul, I fixed the page.

Vortec62, e-mail me if you continue to have login problems. I got your spreadsheet and will be working with it soon.
