    Re: VPW Decoding Assistance Please

    A lot of the data is just module talk.

    On many newer vehicles there is a lot of talk that can clutter up your VPW diagnostics.

    On-Star, BCM, PCM, ABS, Air Bags, Alarm, Radio... many devices just throw chatter onto the VPW bus.

    You could spend a lot of time trying to figure out what every line means but thats very unlikely.

    What I'd recomend is find the module ID of the device you want to watch and just look at those individual packets. Makes things a lot easier.

    --> 05 00 E8 FF 10 03 Manufacture Specific For PCM Tell Tale

    This is defined here on the forum in the old posts....

    05 is 5 bytes to follow
    00 is what cable or software you are using
    E8 I dont know
    FF I dont know
    10 is the VCM module number that Ken is refering to
    03 is the line checksum unless the Csum is stripped by your cable and software.

    Theres an old post somewhere here that outlines this stuff. I tried to search, but I found several others that didnt relate to your question.

    Re: VPW Decoding Assistance Please

    05 00 would be proprietary data to the cable and would not make it out onto the VPW bus.

    E8 is the priority and message type.
    FF is the destination (null node).
    10 is the source (PCM)
