    usb-serial adapter choices

I'm getting a new IBM T42 and that of course comes with no serial ports.
There are a lot of different ones out there, but from reading the boards I know some of them work just fine, while others are extremely slow, or don't work at all.

Any recomendations? I'd be extra grateful if you also mentioned what laptop you're using your adaptor with.

    Thanks,
    Marcin

    Hi Marcin,

I use the KeySpan USB adapter with my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop.

    USB ports su@k !!!
Sometimes they are 'present', & sometimes they 'disappear'.
Sometimes they 'switch' to a high comm port which screws with HPTuner.

Keith uses a very high quality, [$$$] , serial PCMCIA card.
    Now I know why...
No problems with it, as your laptop will treat it like a 'native' serial port.
It's always there, won't 'disappear', won't change comm port on ya...

I've got to get one of those before the track opens in April.

    PS
Thanks for your help with my Zeitronix setup...

Keyspan adapter here, with no problems. Just make sure your bat (car and compouter) voltage is up. The system does not like low bus voltages.
