    Trouble with Trouble Codes

I finally got my VCM Suite running with my USB Adapter and I narrowed the code down to a few things, I remember it being something involving the catalyst but I forgot to write down the exact code... but it's one of these:

DTC P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency
DTC P0422 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1
DTC P0430 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2
DTC P0432 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2

It appeared after I put my high flow cat on, can someone tell me what these error codes mean and how I can go about fixing the problem? I can scan it again tomorrow and post the exact code if that helps. Thanks

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

it meens you need an o2 sim.. or you need to remove those codes in hptuners..

I resently got caspers to fix the issues we were having with high voltage errors..

order one up directly from them..

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

I am not sure that an O2 sim will help. The Sim will only help with sensor #2 (usually shown as Bank #, Sensor 2) meaning it is the second sensor in the system. The second sensor is used to check the efficiency of the Cat. However, I do not think these codes deal with Sensor #2. These apear to deal with the first sensors which are used to measure the air/fuel ratio.

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0422 Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
P0432 Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

Just for info, in order to eliminate the codes from the second sensor, you need to go into EDIT, Engin Diagnostics, DTC's and make sure 0137 - 0141 are set to "No error reporting" and SES Enable "OFF". This will eliminate the need of an O2 Sim. Hope this helps.

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

The problem Missing2 was having is the same one I had about 6 months ago. It revolved around these codes:

P0137 O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0138 O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0139 O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0140 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0141 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Notice these all deal with Bank 1 Sensor 2. Once I disabled these codes in HP Tuners I took the O2 Sim off and I continue to have no error codes.

    p.s. I have a O2 Sim for sale .

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

Where is the first sensor anyways? I think you're right about it not being the second sensor cuz the codes for that one are disabled.

There is one on each side. On mine, they were just where the manafold turned down. Look just below the #5 and #6 spark plugs.

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

I talked with Jason over at TSP, who does custom tuning with the HP Tuners software and he said that P0420 did appear because of my Carsound high flow catalytic converter, so I disabled the DTC and the problem is solved!

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

OK, Does all this above info mean that a car (2001 v6 firebird) with aftermarket exhaust which would need 02 sims to pass OBD2 emissions test in my state....would pass emissions using HP Tuners rather than something like caspars 02 sims? Or does using HP Tuners just delete the error codes and stop checking....until I go for the test...and I get a funny look from the tester...and the back to the drawing board for me?

Have you guys already gone thrue OBD2 emissions testing in your states with HP Tuners?

    Re: Trouble with Trouble Codes

Can't help you there, Florida does not have emission's testing.

You will pass an OBDII test with those codes deleted
