Well, with no way to control the cam position or even tell what position its in at any given point, I can't think of a better way... You have something simpler in mind?Originally Posted by foff667

I didnt say I had anything simpler at the moment...I was just saying it looks like an awful lot of work for something that doesnt necessarily need to be touched upon. Don't get me wrong try it out, experiment for the rest of us...just saying it sure seems like an awful lot of work...wish one of the hpt guys would chime in to help us figure out how to tune said ve tables & how to identify when one is used...im also wondering how your truck woudl react to ve tuning in SD mode...if its similar to early ls1's maybe it will fall to one ve table maybe the min? Or if you'd have tranny shifting problems like the ls2's were having er what...hey give it a shot & report back.Originally Posted by zq8bob

AS for the tables.. I have a suspicion that your right on that one. If ya look at my file, you'll notice that where the VE tables are, there's one that lists as being the one thats used when the cam advance is disabled... and I have afeeling that in SD, the cam will disable.... which if thats the case, then MAF scaling may be the only option for us...
And the reason I am hot after this is that while I love my truck, I do NOT like driving a 5 cylinder 3.5l with 220 HP and 225 ft/lbs and getting worse gas mileage than my friends 450+ hp heads/cam GTO... and I really think that the crappy VE tables are why.

you can control the cam phase using the VCM controls in the scanner which would determine what ve table is being used. you don't really want to tune that way though (I wouldn't think) because the cam phase varies according to rpm's. It'd be nice to be able to log cam phase vs rpm
can you guys log it as a bit map?

yeah i was opening it straight from the downloaded file, but when i imported it into the scanner it workedOriginally Posted by foff667

Hey foff, i thougt the colorado had no knock sensors, how did you get a knock table ot work?? i tried and when i tried to scan with the histo it became unavailabe??? As for tuning is SD mode, i will try it tonight. i have a tune set-up and i wanted to double check that all i needed to tune to put the truck in SD is
1)turn the MAF fail freq to 0
2)turn the SES light for codes P101, P102, P103 to the "off-checked" box
3)set the error mode to 0 or mil on first error
is there anything else i need to do??? my spark tables are fine before you ask that question as well

huh... well at least it works... good job... did you see what i posted above??? is that all i need to do?? i saw a post or two saying to turn the closed loop temps up as well, no sure if i should do that or not??? i am going to run this thing in SD after i get off work as it is a 40 minute drive anyway and another 10 or 20 minutes is no big deal to me, so i really want to make sure i have it set up to enter SD mode

you can, but theres generally a little more that goes into it then just putting your truck into open loop/sd to actually tune your VE table accuratly.

well i know there is going to be some work... but i figure nobody has even put this truck into SD that i know of, and we have no clue if it will still use all 4 VE tables, or if it will default to the min table... we need to start somewhere right

i almost guarantee it defaults to just one table once in SD mode...im just saying at this time im not exactly sure how to set the olfa tables to get a commanded a/f of what you'd want.

ahhh... i see what you are saying... i will have to look at that before i upload the une later on

can someone load up one of those custom histograms for LTFT and STFT... I tried the ones that were posted up on this thread and they don't work...
I've tried creating my own histos, but really don't know what Im doing... I have different VE paramters such as:
VE - High Rpm
VE - Idle
VE - Low RPM Coastdown
VE - Low RPM Double fire!?
VE - Low RPM Single fire!?
VE TPS Load High RPM vs TPS
VE TPS Load Low RPM vs TPS.
I tried creating a histo with the VE - HIGH RPM Main, I got a table that starts on the X-axis with a 3.8 that goes up to a 7.0 (RPM) and on the Y axis its measured in Load (%)...
i really have no clue whats going on

Just got done tuning Hannibals truck today. Those 4 VE tables are a pain...
Here's what I came up with for config & Histos:
Drop the cfg in your "ProgramFiles/HPTuners/VCMSuite2" directory
Drop the hst in you "ProgramFiles/HPTuners/VCMSuite2/Histograms" directory

Never once did I hit the MAX Cam VE table...
Looks like it goes on the Lo Cam table during WOT & heavy throttle.
At light/mid throttle cam angle goes up.
Here's a log as well (First read after turning the MAF back on - no mods to MAF table)
