Swapping 12200411 PCM into 98 Chevy Truck

I want to swap a 12200411 from a 01 or 02 Chevy Express van (which is supported by HPT) into my 98 Chevy truck (which is not supported) obviously so that I can tune my truck myself. I have a few questions about the swap:

    1. Will I be able to put the vin from my 98 into the 01 pcm so that it will read the correct vin when I go to smog my truck?

    2. Is the 12200411 pcm going to support 2 bar SD operation (my truck is SC'd)?

    3. Would this require using 4 credits or 8?

I'm a real noobie to this and haven't purchased yet, so I hope I'm explaining this correctly. If I can't pull this off, it probably won't make much sense for me to buy it, so any insight is appreciated

I am also interested in this same info. I would like to put the 12200411 PCM into my 98 GMC twin turbo. I already have the PCM and connectors. I am just south of Chicago and MUST pass emissions.

LS1 PCM in place of an L31 PCM? Don't think so. Crank trigger is way different, cam pos. sensor way different, coil on plug vs Dist. The list goes on...

It works, this is the same PCM used in the 00-02 L31's.

Lextech did complete his swap with great success. Just wanted to post to close the loop on this "mod", it is possible, doable and has been done. Took him 3 hours to repin the PCM connectors.

    I am thinking of it for my 99 K2500 L29 454 Suburban.

Yup! I am hoping to get me a 12200411 this week and start planning on it. I have a tuned 454 PCM, but I would much rather have one that I can play with.

So can the RTT work with a 12200411 PCM that has a L-29 454 under its wiring harness?? Can I use the custom OS's?

What limitations do I have? What goodies will it open up to me??

if it works thats one of the better pcm's to have ie 01+ LS1 pcm...you've got more tables then the earlier years, more resolution, access to all custom operating systems 1/2/3 bar SD & 1 bar maf...all of which should have real time tuning available.

Bottom line is if it works its about as good as it gets pcm wise.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Looks like I have a plan! I have located a PCM for a pretty cheap cost.

So, being I have a 454 to start with, should I use a 8.1L base tune or does it really matter? Is there any OS differences that really matter, i.e., use one OS over another? Or is it best to go straight to custom?

Is there a good respository of stock tunes for HPT? EFILive there is lots out there, but I haven't really seen anything for HPT or TunerCat/Westers.

    Cool. That helps to know.

Ok, got the scenario. I have a 99 K2500 454 that someday hopefully will be able to be tuned by HPT. If I tune my 454, which takes one VIN. Now, I do a PCM conversion and use my VIN in it, do I get to use the same VIN in the 12200411 PCM or will it cost me another VIN license?

HPTuners must use a valid vin for that year/operating system because otherwise it breaks their year/model licensing...so if your trying to put a vin number from a 99 silverado into an 02 Van pcm its not going to work.

Bottom line is you would loose your Vin number.

Does the VIN do anything in the car itself? Would I have a reason to care?

Just wondering. I don't have a reason on OBD1 to care if my VIN is right.

So it sounds like I can't use the right VIN anyway.

Just FYI,not sure if everyone understand's or not,I know 350ss and lextech know.
You have to use a certain model year file for the swap, since it is the model year that actually utilized this combination stock.Otherwise it will be looking for stuff like coil on plug, dist and cam signal's that aren't there or needed.
The 2001-2002 express van file must be used,if anyone need's it simply drop me an email as I have it on file.I think that's the right year at least.
And I don't have it on file for HPtuner's,only TCII which is a .cal and I think can be read as a .bin
If for some reason you can't do the switch because of the file or licensing restriction's just let me know and I'll see if I can't help you out some way.It would only take a minute to upload the van file to the 0411 ecm,and I should be able to input your original vin on the ecm.
Just let me know if I can help.
If you need more help on this swap,go to pacificp.com/forum ...where this swap was birthed.
