Question about the VAT key and car not starting intermittently 98 Trans Am

Hey, guys. I'm having an issue with a customer vehicle and just trying to determine if it's a VATS issue or a MAF issue. Occasionally the car won't start and when this occurs the MAF sensor reading remains at 0. I'm wondering is this a result of the VATS not being satisfied or is it the MAF itself acting up. I have disabled the VATS and the car is running currently, but I'm wondering if the issue could be a intermittent MAF issue?

    Thanks in advance

On that platform it disables the starter relay and injectors, and turns on the security light for 3 minutes if you use an incorrect key (or if the tiny little wires thru the column break, like they all do). If you get a crank-no-start and no security light then it wasn't VATS.

Unplug the MAF and see if it starts during the failure.
