    Tuning a 427

I'm used to tuning 281 to 350 ci mtors. First the first time I'm tuning a Chevy 427 motor. I have it dialed in good for driveability. However the car seems to lack the seat of the pants torque as it can't spin the tires at all. Motor seems sound, cranking compression is good, burns the plugs fine, no signs of detonation, a/f 13.0 at WOT. Can anyone give me any advice for the timing curve? Right now I have a flat 18 degrees timing on it. Here's what the motor has.

    Accel Intake
    Edelbrock heads
12:1 pistons, compression is about 11.7:1
    Runs on 93 octane

Is this LSX based, or a standard BBC?

Standard BBC's like timing. 18 is nothing. You should be running 36+ n/a(you'll have to play around a see what makes the best power). The compression is a little high for 93 octane...Depends on how much is being bled off with the cam. So you may be limited on how much timing you can actually run.

That is the problem, flat timing curves suck. Depending on those heads, you may want as much as 6-8ยบ of timing on top of what you have. Post the tune.

The CR should be OK. I run mine at 11.4:1 without issues on 93. Of course (like stated) it depends on the cam as well.
