    Some Questions

What is a safe or average number in the timing table at WOT? In my powerband on my truck (2003 Silverado SS, stock internals, LT headers, PnP TB, OL SD sans MAF, e-fan, 3200 stall, bracket raced only), my current tune has timing numbers in the mid 50's at WOT. Is this safe or normal for a NA application? I am not getting any knock because I run racing gas exclusively. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, how do I turn off the engine learn in the tuning?

    Thanks!

Holy shit! Post the tune, you prob don't want more than low 20's at WOT, sure you are looking at the right part?

You will be in the 30's at WOT based on your tune (high g/cyl is WOT, exactly where depends on what you see in the logs).

I would put a stock table back in there and start over. That is way too much timing still at high load.

Even though I run racing gas and I am not getting any knock? If I'm not getting any knock, how else can that much timing hurt me?

Why in the world are you running race gas? Unless your CR is so high or you are FI AND NEED race gas, using it will do nothing but hurt you. You want to use an octane rating which is required. Just because it is not knocking does not mean it is making the best power and just because you are not sensing it, does not mean it is not happening.

I am running unleaded racing gas (100-104 octane) because a. I get it for free, b. I start pinging with 91, and c. the truck is not a daily driver. It goes on the trailer to the track and then down the quarter mile, that's it.

My sensors show no knock, I can't hear any knock, I can't feel any knock, and my plugs do not show any signs of detonation.

I am with you on the maybe not making the best power which is why I am asking where I should be. So you say it's too high? How much too high? How much should I bring it down and should it be across all cells?

    Thanks!

Hard to say on race gas. That motor may want a lot of timing in there because it is going to be much harder to get a complete burn with 100+ octane. I would run a mix and get it to 93. I also think you should have no issue running on 91 with the right timing and fueling, will prob go faster too.

Cool, thanks. I'll take a look at things tonight. When I got my first mail order tune way back when, I started pinging really bad at WOT throttle running on 91. The tune is completely different now and I assume there is even more timing. If less will help it pick up a bit, I am all for taking some out. Since I was clearly wrong in my first post with where the WOT cells are, would you mind shedding some light on where I should be looking on the table? Thanks for the help.

Most likely somewhere around 0.52 g/cyl and up, depending on your setup and what not.

Post your mail order tune, should be easy to tell if you were knocking because of a poor tune.

FWIW, my 03 SS likes right around 24-26* at WOT. I experimented with 28-30* at the track and actually went slower.

Most of my tunes I do are on the trucks and all of them I have done whether it's the 5.3 or the 6.0 seem to run the best right around 22-26* timing at WOT and as far as the 4.8s go I heard that those little motors like the timing up around 30* or so.
