not 100% sure, but I believe hot mode is #4 which happened while kicking down at WOT for me.

Hot Mode is trans overtemp.
You should not see this mode under normal usage.
If you do, it's time for a trans cooler.

So what modes do each number represent when logging shift mode? 4-7?

I thought you were talking about the Hot, Normal Cruise, Perf shift mode tables on the
editor.
On the scanner, we are not done implementing that yet.
In the mean time,
4 = Normal WOT
6 = Normal MPH/TPS
8 = Perf WOT
7 = Perf MPH/TPS

Ahh, ok. Thanks for the info. What happened to 5?

So let's see, you are all saying the following (correct me if I am wrong):
Normal = normal around town driving
Cruise = highway driving, less than ~10% TPS
Hot = refers to trans temp (as mentioned by Keith)
Performance = heavy accelerating/towing, not to include WOT
Correct? ???
Normal = normal around town driving
Cruise = When Cruise control is active
Hot = refers to trans temp
Performance = When Perf or Tow/Haul button on vehicle is active (Vehicle specific option).
Hot is a transmission over-temperature self-
protection mode, as I make it out. More
conservative, probably allowances for thinner
fluid, etc.
Ive read posts regarding adding a pin to the PCM for enabling performance/tow haul mode in the PCM using a momentary switch. Is this mod available in the PCM on a 2001 Silverado 4x4 5.3 with an auto trans?
Are there any good posts or FAQ's in tuning a trans for towing? Some good known tweaks to make for this truck?
