    Safe set-up help?? 6L80

    helllllo!

looking for some basic guidance on getting my feet wet with the auto in my G8.
I've got previous experience with the 4L60's (as does just about every one on here i assume) with this snazzzy 6spd, I dont know whats safe and whats not. How much can you raise line pressure, shorten shift times, TCC settings, ect.

I'm just out to make the car feel sportier and handle the bump in power that'll come with the engine re-tune. the car is bone stock but i'd just like to improve what i can.

i played around with it a bit yesterday but was never really able "feel" a differance, and it seemed that most changes(a slight bump in line pressure and TCC settings) would not allow the car to enter DoD as well. I'm vary lost on that point.

i changed the engine cal, leaving the DoD settings stocks, and it works. change just about anything in the trans and it stops working.

any help would be appreciated guys, thanks!

I havent done one myself, but from what I have read, tuning the 6 speed auto is a pain in the booty unless you know what you're doing.

The Tuning School developed a guide for it that they sell on their site. http://www.thetuningschool.com/courses.html

Read up on here and some of the G8 Boards...several of us have had some success with the 6L80. Also you need the latest beta of the HPT software.

Did you change the Cat over temp by chance? That will stop the DoD. Never had any issues with DoD changing based on trans settings.

I would be wary of increasing the pressures as its a clutch to clutch box and you may affect the oncoming / offgoing timings.
I personally dont touch the torque management - once you have reduced the shift times it feel pretty firm and doesn't feel like it needs to be any harder. Of course I'm in the UK and we dont drag race our cars that much - so I'm certainly not bothered about tenths of a second over transmission durability.

I've documented my experience of DIY tuning of this box Here, which was based on reading the "beginner tuning" thread on this forum.
Change one thing at a time, document what you changed and make sure you can always roll back to the previous step.
Dont blindly import other peoples tunes - open them and study what they have changed, and apply to yours.
