You seem to know auto trannys! Maybe you can help me? I'm looking to swap a 4L80E into a 06 Trailblazer SS wiht a E40 PCM T42 TCM. Is this possible? Can't get a segment swap on these PCMs. So if it's possible I'm guessing it would take some tuning!
I believe the 06 Trailblazer SS has the I.S.S for that shouldn't be a problem, but I thought I read that the 2-3 solenoid is different or PWM on the 4L80E. Ca that be tuned out?
Thanks! -Jamie
Let's get some tried and tested examples for future reference.
WOT SHIFTS: 5700
FINAL DRIVE: 4.30
TIRE: 34.5
STALL: 2000
UP: 5
DOWN: 5
DOWN RPM: 9999
IDLE: 650
MIN TCC LOCK: 1500
This is currently what I have setup for my daily driven GMC Sonoma with a 5.3/4L65, solid axles, 4.30 gears and 35" tires. I do not like the converter locked below 1600rpms as the engine seems lugged down too much, so I used the spreadsheet to accomplish this. The shifts are set up for a slow rig that spends most of its time below 30% TPS. For times when I want to "skinner back" and let the 5.3L breathe, WOT 3rd to 1st downshifts happen right around 35mph and I can spin both 35" tires without issue. This seems to be working well, and I'll update as I make changes. Soon I'll be replacing the 5.3 with a 5.7, and downgrading to 4.10's vs the current 4.30's. Should be interesting to see how the extra torque of the engine and less gear multiplication play out on the highway in 4th.

This is my setup:
WOT shifts : 5800
Final Drive: 4.56
Tire Height: 31.6
Stall: 2000
Up: 5
Down: 5
Down RPM: 9999
Idle RPM: 850
Min TCC Lock: 1000
I'm a newb to the setup, but I just had 4.56 's installed and this spreadsheet has a TOTALLY different setup than what HPT lays out. My question is, the TCC setup seems unusual (maybe not, but the parameters are MUCH higher than what they originally were) to me. What do you guys think, do they look normal?
I could REALLY use help, bc the trans setup is way out and bugging me like crazy!
Is this link valid It wont seem to open on my pc!
Just checked, they both opened for me,
You need Microsoft excel to open.
Is this still the be-all-end-all of automated auto trans shift point tuning? Any updates?
Worked really good for my car........spoke too soon

Anyone still using this or have anything to add? I am hating how my 4L80E is shifting right now in my car.

Man, what a great tool. This tool saved me alot of time and money. I had a very good tuner update my trans a few years ago and recently made a tire change to a smaller one. I decided to take on changing the tune, worked OK, but I recently found this thread and man, what a change. I was almost ready to start adding more timing, instead I made one last ditch effort to try this sheet, and WOW, truck feels like a whole new truck. I can tow a 12,000lb trailer up grades that before I made the change could only go about 45 miles an hour, now the converter comes unlocked and it keeps the RPM's in the power band, motor not screaming. Thanks again great tool!
I wanted to bring this thread back to the top because I've been using the spreadsheets again for 2 different trucks lately.
I did the axle swaps in my truck. 4.10's are now in, with 37's instead of 35's. The 5.7L is also back in, instead of the 5.3L. This is with a 4L65.
New setup is as follows:
WOT SHIFTS: 5700
FINAL DRIVE: 4.10
TIRE: 36.5
STALL: 2000
UP: 5
DOWN: 5
DOWN RPM: 9999
IDLE: 650
MIN TCC LOCK: 1500
Seems to be working nicely on the highway with speeds above 70mph but I still do not like the county highways cruising along 50-55mph. For some reason my truck just lugs along at 1500rpm and when I encounter a hilly road I wish the torque converter would unlock and allow the engine to rev higher. Instead it just groans and moans in a deep note until finally I step down on the gas far enough to let it shift into 3rd, or I manually shift out of OD. I'm still learning on the transmission front, so maybe I'll figure this part out.
On another truck I've been tuning lately, 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 with Quadrasteer (LQ4 6.0L and 4L80E) and it has 4.10's and LT265/75R16 10 plies. The spreadsheet settings I used are as follows (with the 4L80 box checked of course):
Normal driving
WOT SHIFTS: 5800
FINAL DRIVE: 4.10
TIRE: 31.25
STALL: 2000
UP: 5
DOWN: 5
DOWN RPM: 9999
IDLE: 25
MIN TCC LOCK: 1000
Tow/haul mode
WOT SHIFTS: 5200
FINAL DRIVE: 4.10
TIRE: 31.25
STALL: 2000
UP: 4
DOWN: 4
DOWN RPM: 3500
IDLE: 625
MIN TCC LOCK: 1000
So far these settings are wonderful in this truck. It's so smooth and always seems to be in the right gear. I like how it holds onto 2nd and 3rd a little longer than most would think it should before upshifting into 3rd and 4th. I haven't been able to tow anything heavy yet where I'd need to be in Tow/Haul mode but I'll report back if I ever find the opportunity.

A question on this. If the VSS PPD in the spreadsheet is different from what is in the tune, should it be changed on the spreadsheet, or in HPT?
When changed in the spreadsheet I didnt notice any changes in anything else occrur.
Also I dont find Trans rev/dist in my tune. Should it be there somewhere ?

On using Spreadsheet what tables do I change when using them?? Is there something that shows you what tables to change??
