Thread: Ls2 Knock Sensors on a Ls1 Pcm?!?!?!

  1. #21
    Any updates to this thread?

I have a LS3 i'm installing into my C5. Was trying to install the headers tonight to find out that the stock LS6 knock sensors on the side of the block do not clear my headers.... So I'm planning to buy LS2 knock sensors and make the changes to the tune.

Did you have any success adopting LS2 knock sensors with your LS1/LS6 PCM?

Just FYI, I have an LS3, 6.2L, couldn't seem to make room for the Ls1 sensors in the place that they are 'supposed' to go on that block, so I screwed them into 2 handy holes towards the block front... didn't seem to make any difference, they still seem to operate as on my old LS1....

Thanks for the heads up Dermotw. Can you explain what holes towards the front you're referring to? I don't see any obvious holes towards the front of the car.

I had the same issue, my LS3 with LS1 knock sensors on the side do not clear my headers (can't even bolt the headers on).

Just looked again, found what I think you're talking about. There's a hole towards the front, right behind the power steering/alternator on the driver side (i'm in a C5). Issue for me is the AC bracket blocks that hole on the passenger side.

I think I will either have to drill/tap the hole for the LS1 sensor, and hope it clears the starter. or I need to try a LS2 sensor...

Well here's where one of mine ended up, lol... I can't find a pic of the other one!

    EDIT:

Ok, here's a pic of other side but I'm not 100% sure thats where it ended up, this was taken before I put the engine in, the sensor is just above rear of alt. I can't recall if I needed to retap one or both of the holes....

    Nice. Mine wouldn't fit there.

So what I ended up doing was taking a grinder to the threads on the LS1 knock sensors, grinding it down to the correct diameter of the LS2 knock sensor hole (M8 x 1.25) then I was able to re-thread the knock sensor. It went right into the LS2 knock sensor location when I did that. I ended up just leaving the driver side LS1 knock sensor where you suggested since I didn't have any clearance issues, but passenger side is placed next to starter, and barely doesn't fit. For what it's worth, I had to put the knock sensor in with the starter moved off to the side, it's not something I can do with the starter in the car.
