can see now that the 2.2 ecotec has been requested for over 6mo now... am hoping there's something being done to satisfy!
what about swapping 2.2 cavi (ecotec) into a 2.2L saturn ecotec... since the 2.2 cavi is now supported?!

talk about coming back from the dead!!!!!
so now i noticed that the 97-05 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 has a tune can we swap that ecm in the ion if hit has the ecm....?
Not sure if I understand what your saying, but a J-body PCM will not function well in a 2.2 Ion. All of the vehicle's communications are on a standard the J PCM is not capable of, and you'll lose the electric power steering.Originally Posted by krivera

I spoke to a service tech at a chevy dealer and they said the computers are identical in every way. This brings to question why are they not supported. I own A 2003 LW200 and I want to turbocharge it. vin# 1g8ju84f53y561140 so far all I've heard is it's not supported. WHEN WILL IT BE????

Patience, politeness, and continually asking for support might result in something. There's definitely a market here for the Ion crowd, as well as the L-Series crowd. We've got money, desire, and have been asking for over 8 months now. It might happen eventually, right?
we can hope!
Have a turbo L61 ION just waiting for tuning....
I use HPT on my LSJ, and I LOVE the software. After using it, there is no way I will go stand alone on this turbo project
So Chris any word on tuning for our cars???

am i reading this thread date right? i looked at the first post date and it said 2004? and we are going into 2007? i dont think HPTuners is going to do a tune for the 2.2L ecotec motors!
a-men.
Well, without the computer, you could do the MSD Ignition mod I dug up at one point to control your spark, maybe the DFMU you've been using, Bc3tech, to control fuel, and GM's adjustable cam timing gears to monkey around a little bit with cam timing. It's not much, and it's not this fabled HPTuners we've all come to imagine, but it's a start, right?
that may solve some problems, but still doesn't take care of the need to cut back the extra fuel the ECU is sending in the 1-3psi range
I've started a petition of sorts in the Request forum, and have been asking potential customers from Saturnfans and other websites to ask politely and respectfully for tuning support. I did a search of that particular part of the forum, and no one has yet requested tuning for the '03-'07 Ion 2.2, believe it or not.

Please make a short post asking for support.
I have a feeling the 07 2.2 might get support someday (as it shares a "newer" ECM model with other models)
But the ECM used in the 03-06 Ion (and 05-06 Cobalt) 2.2 was a bit of an "orphan" box so it would be hard to make a business case for supporting it . Hopefully someday

Thing is, what years are going to get more sales for HP Tuners? The single year of 2007 of the series of year between 2003-2006?Originally Posted by WopOnTour
Think of it this way. If there are 3000 Ions built each year, and 1 out of every 100 people need a tuner, whats gonna get more sales? The 30 from 2007 or the 120 from 2003-2006? Obviously the 120. So obviously HP Tuners is gonna be more inclined to develop for those years.
BTW, the 3000 number is just off the top of my head, I have no idea how many they actually make.
Haven't yet found the actual figures, but Jill (Saturn VP) was quoting 150,000 a year as the goal. They were selling about 6000 a month, so let's say as a compromise they reached 75,000 units a year. From 2003 to 2007, you have five years of the car selling. All of '03, '04, '05, '06, '07.
5 X 75,000 = 375,000
Now, let's say one in ten cars needs tuning, that's 37,500 cars out there in need of tuning. Drop it to 1 in 20, and it's still 18,750. That's a lot of potential customers out there looking for tuning. And SpeedyIon, you're right with your ideas, because 15,000 cars versus 3,750 is a whopping 11,250 lost customers. Anyone wanna work out the math for how much money could be made there?
They'll get to it. Right guys? *hinthint*
I can make some mean 2.2's if they do... and a fast Saturn is the best advetising you'll ever see!

I'd just like to be able to futz around with it more, you know? After I do some basic maintenance I'm hitting the dyno again with everything 110%, gonna log AFR and everything else. Looking at the big dip in torque right around 2700-3000 RPMs, I'm betting you the car's running pig rich. I'm sure with my upcoming cylinder head and cams being able to tune for it will net me even more. Come on, you know you want to help me spend four digits on my motor!
I understand thatOriginally Posted by speedyion
But you kind of missed my point. The 120 you "calculate" is ALL that will ever be...
My point was the new E37 ECM used in the 2007 2.2 Ecotec is ALSO used in a number of other newer engine combinations as well so THEY would automatically get supported as well... and added to the potential HPT customers.
Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see the E16 (03-06 L61) supported by HPT as well (own 2 myself),but I know it's just all about estimating "recoverable costs" on the time investment.

Shh, that makes the business case for the Ion more difficult. I just want to be able to tune my car.
