I am fairly confident that I have been doing it correctly for the past 4+ years. But if doing what you suggested works I will be the first to admit it. Will let you know.

Screen shots of what you're seeing would help greatly. It says "HPtuners tech support" in my sig for a reason. I did trackside tech support for them for several years. It's not just something I'm randomly claiming.
If you opened a tech support ticket you need to include an info log and dat.debug file. You can find that under Documents/HPtuners/Settings.
When collecting and saving your info log you need to be connected to the car with the ignition on, engine off.

So I have fixed this issue. One thing edcmat-l1 highlighted with his last comment was that I had l had deleted the software and re installed it but I had not deleted its sub folder. This sub folder is what contained the issue whatever it was. So I uninstalled the software and deleted the folder. Then I re installed the software that populated a new sub folder. I opened one of my logs and I can now use the parameter selector as per normal. Thankyou for your help highlighting the issue edcmat-l1
