    2000 z28 ses codes won't go away

I have removed the egr and air smog systems and disabled the circuits by removing the relay and fuses. Then installed headers and catless ypipe and unplugged the post cat 02 sensors. I tried to tune out the codes, which are: PO140, PO160, PO405, PO412, PO418. The codes will delete for the first drive, but all of them come back after turning ignition off and going for the second drive. also, some trouble codes are grayed-out on the list and I cannot unselect them. How do i get around this and get the codes to never come back? should I plug in the rear o2 sensors again, or not necessary? thanks!

In order to change/alter or update some of the "Emissions" codes or features you have to take a class on HP Tuners website and then you will get a code to validate for 1 calendar year.

    That's unfortunate. Thank you.

Not really. The EPA compliance is designed to weed out exactly you. People that want to do nothing more than delete/defeat the emissions components. And most of the time it's unnecessary. You'll make plenty of power with cats, post cat O2s, etc.

But, I had an '80 Malibu with the old pellet-bed converter on it and that one picked up big time when I cut it off, therefore, I cut the cats off everything I own to this very day. There are some people who claim to have done "testing" and claim that modern cats vs. no cats is essentially the same as the difference between any two back-to-back runs with zero changes inbetween but I know they are lying.

So in all your years of modifying cars and trucks you've never installed a set of headers that didn't have EGR and AIR provisions on a vehicle that had those on it from the factory? I know you are a well recognized tuner but you really go overboard a lot here lately.

My guess is the EPA probably watches this forum so everyone is CYA lol. Id rather smell fuel than catalyst, but thats personal preference.

You have to either take the test or use older software versions but if you are using the MPVI3 I think you are stuck with using version 5.x or later. But even after taking the test I think the ability to disable EGR is gone. And files saved with newer versions can't be opened with older versions.

Other option is take the car or PCM to a tuner that still uses older software and have them edit it. Once it is edited you can continue using the version you have.

yeah, that's probably what I'll end up doing. one shop wants $750 to do it, so I figured I'd ask around in here first to try to get around paying that lol. thank you sir
