My Free Tuning Software:
VVE Assistant [update for v1.5]
MAF Assistant
EOIT Assistant
Amazing content. 've learned a lot and about to tackle VVE tuning my LUV 1.4 upgraded cam VVE tuning. I've watched everything for the VVE assistant and setup all the Math parameters but for the life of me I can't find the how to to setup the graphs. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
Setting the histograms up in scanner is relativity simple. You make the rows and columns to match the VVE table from the editor.

Here is a file from Cringer that has the math and the filtering (for his dynamic air method) layed out so you can copy and paste it.
NOTE: I know these work for V8 im not sure if the dynamic air math equations work for a 4 cylinder. I think there is another post about how to edit the equation so it will work. Just have to search around for that.
Formulas and Math for Tuning with Dynamic Air.txt
Back to the graph setup in the scanner. The Blue highlight is where you will enter the custom math channel you've created and the yellow is where you can paste and edit the filter equation. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply and the clarification. I was stuck on a couple things which you clarified with your screenshot, function and correct parameter as there are two Pressure Ratio and I had the wrong one. But I think I got the graphs I'll need to start tuning the VVE. I'm tuning DOHC and from my understanding I'll need to zero out the cams and that data with the VVE assistant tool the other Virtual VE Coefficients in VCM editor should calculate for the other cam angles. I know on page one there was some talk about DOHC VVE tuning so this should be fun. Screenshot 2024-11-07 162751.png

Correct you should use the tune file to "lock" the cams in place while logging VVE histogram data for each cam angle or combination of angles between intake and exhaust. Good Luck!
I'm getting ready to start using this and Cringer's MAF tool for the first time; apologies if this is a zombie thread.
For the MAF, I was disabling DCFO, Cat Protect, and pulling timing 5 degrees; is this still necessary? How do I 'prep' for MAF logging aside from Cringer's parameters/tables?
Same question for VVE; is this same as above? I was failing the MAF (successfully, got the CEL), but now I will not do that. Any other adjustments?
Is all of this unnecessary, and I should just run in regular driving mode?
Thanks!
I don't think its necessary to pull timing unless you fear you will be very very lean at the start. If you do pull timing you will need to make the adjustments to the MAF add timing back in and then repeat the MAF tuning process once again to verify.
Here is my personal list of base changes i put together from posts here on the forum. These are what is made to the tune before starting on maf or vve tuning using cringers dynamic air method (others may add or tune in to correct this list if something is off)
MAF Dynamic Air or GMVE style tune changes
? Engine > Airflow > Speed Density >VE Base Temp. Set to ambient temp of the day your tuning.
? Engine > Fuel > Cutoff DFCO > Disable ECT Hyst. Set to 300
? Engine > Fuel > Cutoff DFCO > Enable RPM. Set to 8,000
? Engine > Fuel > Cutoff DFCO > Disable RPM. Set to 7,000
? MANUAL TRANS Engine > Fuel > Cutoff CFCO > Enable RPM. 8,000
? MANUAL TRANS Engine > Fuel > Cutoff CFCO > Disable RPM. 7,000
? Engine > Fuel > Temperature Control > COT. Disable
IF USING ONLY STFT IN LOG
? Engine > Fuel > LTFT Min coolant temp. Set to 240
? Engine > Fuel > LTFT Max coolant temp. Set to 100
IF USING A WIDE BAND TO TUNE MAF
? Engine > Fuel > LTFT Min coolant temp. Set to 240
? Engine > Fuel > LTFT Max coolant temp. Set to 100
? Engine > Fuel > Oxygen Sensors > 02 Readiness voltage. Set to – 2,000
? Open loop can also be commanded off in the scanner before the log starts.
? Engine > Fuel > Open Loop. Set any table that adds to the EQ ration to 1 for the entire table.
? Engine > Fuel > Power Enrichment. Set all EQ tables to the same value. Example: 1.176 – 1.200
VVE Dynamic Air or GMVE style tune changes
? Engine > Airflow > Speed Density >VE Base Temp. Set to ambient temp of the day your tuning.
? Engine > Airflow > VVT> Intake desired angle > High Baro. Set to 0 degrees while adjusting the VE table.
? Engine > Fuel > Cutoff DFCO > Disable ECT Hyst. Set to 300
? Engine > Fuel > Cutoff DFCO > Enable RPM. Set to 8,000
? Engine > Fuel > Cutoff DFCO > Disable RPM. Set to 7,000
? MANUAL TRANS Engine > Fuel > Cutoff CFCO > Enable RPM. 8,000
? MANUAL TRANS Engine > Fuel > Cutoff CFCO > Disable RPM. 7,000
• Engine > Fuel > Temperature Control > COT. Disable
IF USING ONLY STFT IN LOG
? Engine > Fuel > LTFT Min coolant temp. Set to 240
? Engine > Fuel > LTFT Max coolant temp. Set to 100
IF USING A WIDE BAND TO TUNE VVE
