MPVI3 - Intermittently channels disappear when pressing record

    Hi All,

Wanted to see if this is isolated to my MPVI3 or not and see if there are any resolutions.

Intermittently, many of the channels I typically scan for my ZL1 will disappear when I hit the record button. Like the channels aren't available on the car.

I'm noticing this primarily after I scan a log, make a few changes, and then flash them to the car, turn off the car, then go key on/car off, then try to reconnect the scanner and record. Usually when this happens, if I unplug the MPVI3, and unplug the USB cable, then reconnect, it will usually work as expected.

I can always open a support ticket I suppose, but wanted to see if this is a common problem or not.

When my USB cable is failing or the USB port is worn, weird stuff happens. From what I recall I lose everything, but I've had so many things go wrong I could never remember all of them.

My USB cables and ports take a hit because I have to drag the Dongle with me in and out of the car, thanks to the security checks when using the Editor. So I have to replace the cable every few months, and it seems the life span of a USB port is about 6 months?

I also have issues, every single day, where the Scanner won't see the car at all. Usually closing the error window and trying again works. If not, I need to un/re-plug the dongle from the PC just like you said. I also need to un/re-plug the dongle almost every time I use the Editor. It's very finicky, rather frustrating, and I'm sure a big contributor to wearing out the USB cable and ports. Currently my last functional USB port is shimmed to keep it tight enough, and I predict it has less than a month left. Just part of the untold costs of using HP.

usually means you're getting close maxing out how much you can log at once. there is usually multiple options when you log different PIDs if you can find the same PIDs that have a single arrow next to them it will free up some load on the scanner and that should help. single arrow means broadcast info and double arrow means the MPVI is requesting that info directly and takes more work

hardeet; I did not know that about the arrows. All my channels have two arrows, but to be sure we're talking about the same thing I attached pix:

And I jinxed myself. First time using my USB cable after my post it glitched within a minute and all data stopped, and lost since I didn't notice.

    Start the car first

    Close gauges

    Repoll

    Start log

Zoom all the way out on chart vs time

Check to be sure everything‘s populating and log data

For playback you can put anything you want over on the right side but what is there during logging seems to effect lag

yeah thats it and while you are doing that you can look through and make sure you arent logging info that you dont really need
