    04.5 5.9 Cummins VGT Tune

I recently put a DPS VGT in my 04.5 5.9 Cummins. Im currently using my orig tune that I built and had some help building from this forum. It runs great, but want to tinker a bit to get some egt's down and make this VGT even better. Has anyone done a VGT in a 5.9 and built a tune? TIA.

How are you controlling the vanes?

Vanes are controlled by the DPS controller box as well as a little dial. The way I understand it works is it monitors the exhaust pressure, boost pressure, TPS, and adjusts as needed. It has a little dial controller so the user can select how early they want them to open and what the desired starting point is. There is a toggle to turn on exhaust brake which is activated by TPS monitoring. There is no tuning capability through the DPS controller box.

Currently everything works well with the tune I have loaded which was built for a larger turbo as you may recall I had some smoke and spooling issues where I live at 10k ft. This new unit is night and day difference. On my only test drive so far, I saw 35psi at around 2900rpm at 10k ft, but EGT's were through the roof at 1400. I need to work on that. It gets to 10-15 PSI super quick from a stop and would probably roast the tires if I chose to. There is zero smoke! I am waiting for a couple other parts for the truck and I will then get back out and do some logging. I think I need to pull some timing and fuel back from this tune to make it a more reliable tow vehicle. Was just looking to see if anyone had a similar setup to get a base tune from.
