Hey Guys! I'm in the midst of a big exciting project and currently doing the research on the electronics I will need to make it all work. I am doing a turbo build on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with the 2.2L Ecotec (L61). The stock ECU is VERY aniemic in terms of tuneability and the only way I think I'm going to be able to get to my goal of 400WHP is with a more advanced/capable ECU. I really like the idea of running something like a FuelTech FT550 or similar but that leaves me with one serious issue. Street legality.

My idea is that if I swap in an LNF ECU and build a custom harness for the car I would be able to utilize the emissions functions of that ECU to continue to pass state inspections. Fortunately the state inspection only entails plugging in an OBDII diagnostic reader and checking the status of the onboard monitors and the VIN. As a disclaimer, I'm aware that this is going to be very difficult and very expensive to accomplish. I'm not afraid of either of those factors. I'm not trying to save money on this build, I'm trying to build power/reliability. I would really appreciate some guidance here from the guys who have worked with these ECUs.

One of the questions I'm working on right now is "will the LNF ECU operate a 3 port wastegate solenoid using the circuit/tables for the stock bypass valve?". If it wont then I will need a quality boost controller for which my requriements will be the ability to program boost curves based on time and maybe even speed. I'm not looking for one of the $300-400 gauges that will do it with less functionality. Honestly, the less flashy the better. AMS-1000 has me interested but it seems outdated and I hope there's something newer/better available.

Finally, if there is another way to accomplish this project that maintains street legality I am all ears to hear about it. The idea with this car is to maintain a classy, OEM like look and pressence.... until you hit the gas of course.

Thank you for reading,
Jeff
