Word Of advice please learn from my mistake

    Hey guys,

I contemplated on writing this post or not, but I wanted to maybe share some stuff with people to better prepare themselves in the in case of a loss of your HP tuners interface.

On November 22, 2024 my wife and I had a barn fire which I lost everything. My barn was built in 1891 and over the last 10 years I have finished off the inside to be my man cave/hobby room/workshop/ Place to release. I will try to attach pictures to this post to show you what it looked like before and after. The fire was started by a Milwaukee M18 battery that was on the charger. I had walked into the room and saw it shooting what looked like a Roman candle as it was charging. The only reason I walked into that room was I heard my dog bark in the man cave which made me come out of the back Shop and look to see why he was barking.

Now I?m writing this because my wife's check engine light came on while she was driving her Tahoe. When I said I would scan it to see the problem, I realized my laptop, my HP tuners, and my other items I used for my vehicles were in my backpack, which were on the couch in the man cave and burnt up. You can see it sitting on the couch in the picture that was taken by my security camera the day before.

I contacted Hp Tuners and let them know what happened to see if I could upgrade to the newest interface to replace my lost interface and start rebuilding. The email I received back from Hp Tuners stated that they would not transfer my credits of unlocked vehicles unless I sent the old MPVI back. I responded to that email and let them know that the interface was lost in the fire along with my laptop and everything else. I had no way to be able to return it. The person writing the email back to me, said that?s against our policy and there is no exception, basically I was out of luck. Not only was the email unprofessional but showed zero compassion to the fact that I lost everything in the fire. I did send pictures of the fire to prove I was being honest about our loss. I even offered to send the police and fire report if they needed that for proof as well. I shared the picture of the backpack on the couch the day before taken by my security camera to show the location of my backpack.

Now my fault is that my barn/hobby room was under insured. I did not understand the breakdown of my insurance policy so I?ll take full responsibility for that, but if a company like Hp Tuners could transfer licenses for an upgrade why can?t they do it if I lost, in a fire, with no possible way to recover my interface.

So, the first item to take away is to make sure that you do not leave any of the lithium polymer batteries on charge If you?re not watching them. there were things I found out during the fire investigation that I was not aware of with any of the batteries.

Second-Don?t think Hp Tuners for one minute is willing to help you out in any way shape or form. Not only was I disappointed because I?ve had my tuner for almost 10 years, but I was a little pissed off on the response in the email with no number to call to express what happened or anyone even willing to look at it on a case-by-case basis.

And third, please, for your own sake, for those of you with an external shop review your homeowner's policy and the breakdown of how all items are covered on it. I did not know that items were not covered, even if they were in your barn under your homeowner's policy like my snowmobiles had to have their own riders, or insurance even though they were not registered for this year yet. Because we had no intent to ride them this year they were left in the barn for storage. I also bought a barn find CJ7 That had not been registered since 1984 that was in one side of the barn. It was going to be a project for this winter to restore. They did not cover that because it had its own VIN and there should have been vehicle insurance on it. So, if you think things are covered on your property under your insurance policy just verify it.

Again, the only reason I?m posting this is because if any of you think for one minute, Hp Tuners is willing to help in the event of a tragedy of this sort you might want to think again.

We are sorry for your loss. Unfortunately because MPVI1 devices do not qualify for replacement for lost, stolen or fire damage due to how their licenses are stored.

MPVI2, MPVI2+, MPVI3 and any newer generations of hardware do not have the same limitations and can be replaced in those cases and we've helped with replacements in hundreds if not thousands of these cases.

I would recommend to anyone with an MPVI1 device to simply upgrade to the newest hardware to avoid lost, stolen or generally unrecoverable interfaces such as the case here.

Regarding how we can transfer licenses during the upgrade, the upgrade process requires you to send in the MPVI1 device, we then physically transfer over the licenses at our facility, this typically takes about an hour by one of our upgrade techs.
