    Pcm swap

day, I have a GMC here that the computer has been damaged from being jump started. I am getting a used computer out of same make and model < 2011 GMC Arcadia 3.9, Will it be possible to change the vin of the PCM with only 2 credits or will I need 4. car has never been licensed and all I am doing is changing the VIN. If I never read the original PCM, can not because it is dead, will I be able to license just the PCM or when I go to change vin will I be asked to license the new vin. All this will be on one PCM. Just trying to give our customer a price that I don't have any surprises after I start doing this.
    Thanx

You need to take it to a dealership for something like this.

The PCM and TCM need to have matching calibrations in a GMC Acadia. You need to do a lot more than just change the VIN, the PCM needs to be programmed with the VIN and the matching operating system that matches the PCM and TCM that this vehicle came with from the factory.

A dealership or someone that has a GM Tool and a SPS subscription could do this.

I can use SPS but HP is a lot easier to use. SPS has always got some sort of issue going on. WAs hoping that if the PCM had same part number and came out of same vehicle that could change the vin and be done with it. SPS would be cheaper at 45 bucks to reprogram but HP would not have all the glitches SPS has.

HP Tuners can't flash all the segments required when swapping PCM's.

Matching part numbers doesn't work anymore. I could go to a junkyard and grab a computer for my truck, unlock it and flash the VIN but the truck won't move because the calibration will always be a mis-match.

VIN swaps and computer swaps were much easier on pre can-bus computers.
