SWAP Gen4 ECU into 2000 Silverado.... Looking for information.

    Hello,
Before I get a smart ass answer like "anything can be done" I understand that. lol..
I'm wondering how much would need to be changed to make the Gen4 ECU work in a Gen3 body. Will it work with the gauges, AC controls, Remote Door locks, ABS, and so on...

Would I need a custom wiring harness, or does someone make one I could just buy?
Not sure what engine I'm going with yet, but most likely a 6.0l from the worn out 5.3 thats in there now..

Also, The trans... I'd really like to swap out the 4l60e to a 6l80 which is why I'm looking to go with a gen 4 ECU... (now maybe you understand my madness)...lol

If anyone has any info, or has done this or something similar, please let me know...

    Thanks

    Capital-B Bad capital-I Idea.

Strip it out race-car-style and use all aftermarket gauges (and no more ABS/SIR/etc.), or do an aftermarket ECU piggybacked onto the original PCM left in place to run all the original electronics. This is absolutely the worst, least-workable situation to use a different-generation factory ECM.

Blindsquirrel is spot on...You'll have to piggyback the E38/T43 computers into your truck. Basically, they could simply control the engine and transmission, and leave the P01 PCM there for the rest of the functions.

Or you can use a GEN4 E67 ECM, Trailblazer SS cal, this will allow you to send serial data to your trucks serial data circuit. and it will talk to 6L80E too. i have done 2 gen 3 silverados this way, of course you need to setup your gen3 engine with gen4 cam/crank reluctors, or us a gen4 engine.

I want to hear more about this. I'm having a hell of a time with an LS3 stroker in an 04 Silverado SS. Im using Lingtonfelter and I'm not having much luck with it. The E67 uses the 58x4x signals? Can it control 4L80? Can the VIN be changed to a gen3 vin?

You probly wont get much help in the "MISC" section. not to mention bringing a 2 year old thread back up. Make a new post in the gen 3 V8 section and include vehicle info, mods, tune file, log file (if you have one) and the issues youre having problems with andsomeone will chime in with some info fairly quickly. Revived threads dont normally get too much attention on here.

If you're talking about the Lingenfleter converter box I've used them many times and never had an issue. Have several of them running for years now. Might want to go over your installation instructions again.

I just shot you a pm if you get some time and wouldn't mind helping me out with some info. Im gearing up to tackle a project doing the same thing in a gen 3 truck

Hello, if you have a gen 3 truck and would like to use a GEN 4 engine on it you can do this: Use trailblazer SS E67 ECM, it has both CAN BUS and SERIAL DATA output, you will use canbus for engine and transmission and for comms betwen ECM AND TCM and also for diagnostics, the serial data output from ecm will have to be wired to truck serial data line, it will feed all your gauges, ac functions, 4wd, etc. i have done this using a 6l80e too and it works too, trailblazer ecm should work with 4L60/4L80 and 6L80E.
