Yesterday I helped a customer get his H1 Humvee operating properly via his A40 Allison standalone controller. His build is really cool he has a 1999 5.9L DSL mated with a adapter plate to a 1000 series Allison out of a Duramax truck. His issue was he had no throttle control / lock up via his TPS sensor, so naturally his truck was stuck in a RPM mode (WOT) after we talked a little and used our brains we were able to get his controller flashed with the proper OS for more standalone control vs a CAN based ECM/TCM/ABS module setup. With GM based 06 UP Allison control modules the ECU gets pedal position data then relays it over the can network to the Allison TCM. The issue with this is now you have removed the ECM/ABS module from the equation and you have no controllers to tell the Allison what the pedal / torque input is. We fixed this by fully flashing the A40 controller to a proper Operating System but with the A40 & 41 controllers they are extremely different they don't fully read like the past controllers & 09 up A50 version. So most software's don't implement a full read its more of a half read if that makes sense. You can modify shift points and calibration data but not the systems them self unless you have a proper setup Flash Scan or a J2534 to full flash it via TDS. Now you have a few different ways you can swap to a Allison 1000 / 2000 series but usually the cost is far greater than the reward. If you shop around the trans itself used from a good salvage yard should run you $1250 to $2000, next a controller to operate the trans lets say $500 to $1000, a proper TPS $100 to $350, and a used wire harness for modification $300 to 500, a person like me to modify the harness and tune the controller $1000 to $2000. That's $3150 to $5800 for a fully Allison swap add in another few hundred for a adapter plate or the correct bell housing SAE 3. All in all that's actually not a bad deal if you do the install yourself. I will have some logs here shortly in HPT format but we have been using EFI Live for the initial flash and logging more on it on their forum. The customer said on his build he has about 10k into the full project not sure if that included the motor as well on the H1 going from the 4L80 to the 6 speed Allison 1000.
