    Help with Unlicensed vehicle

So ill start off with saying im new to the hptuners world. I paid someone to tune my 99 rcsb silverado v6 to v8 swap. I ended up using a pcm out of 2000, so i bought my credits and loaded in the new tune and the truck sat for another month. now i got a new updated tune (new parts) and i go to load this tune in and it says unlicensed vehicle. i got in touch with support and they told me i could try and read the calibration from the ecm and write that file back to license information reporting. How do i go about trying this method. I have another pcm to put in the truck as well but they said it could lead to more licensing problems. Any help would be appreciated!

By new tune, do you mean you modified the .HPT file from the 2000 PCM? If not and you tried to load a .HPT file from a different PCM you will need to license that file also. I'm sure support can explain this better but the basics are this, you read the file from the PCM, license the file/PCM, load it back to the PCM and then you can modify that .HPT file/PCM as many times as you like. If you use a new/different PCM/.HPT file from a different PCM you will have to license that file also. The credits/license is for that PCM and the original file in it that can now be modified as much as you like. When you change the PCM or try to add a file from a different PCM you will need to license it again/more credits.

the new tune came from the tuner and he told me to just send him the last tune he gave me. ( the first base tune for my truck) I didnt change the pcm in between both tunes its still the one out of the 2000 truck. Why would i have to license it again if its the same pcm?

Sounds like they sent you a file that wasn't from your truck back to you. If you open a support ticket we can assist you further.

So I am confused on the licensing. if you change name of .hpt file it has to be re licensed? or things like segment swapping have to be relicensed?

just to clarify for others. a license needs to be the same vin, operating system and pcm serial number, it needs to be the same in the pcm and the file your writing. it will license to the file your trying to write and make the license invalid for pcm. hope this saves someone the headache I'm going through.

Its actually covered in the licensing screen when you go to license a file.
