4L60E shifts but no speed output
I just finished swapping an LS1/4L60E into my 68 Pontiac Lemans. The car runs and drives pretty well considering I have done no tuning yet. It drives and shifts and the shift points seem reasonably normal. However....The speedometer on my Dakota digital dash wont work because it says it is receiving no pulses from the PCM. Also when I log it with VCM scanner the speed always reads zero. When the speedometer didn't work originally I thought perhaps I wired it wrong so I decided to monitor my speed with VCM scanner. What I learned is that it also read zero. Contradicting my "wired wrong" theory, the data coming through the OBD port to the scanner is a completely different wire, and it seems to be reading everything else just fine. Can the trans still shift and drive if the VSS is not sending it a signal? I didn't think it could, but if I have VSS data going into the PCM, why do I have no VSS data coming out of it? My easiest fix would be if the VSS was bad, as it is the one I got with the trans, but I figured that would just leave the trans in some sort of limp mode. I have no fault codes in the PCM. Ideas appreciated. Thanks
