A common problem when tuning a car that has been previously been tuned is the "scrambled strategy", where the calibration IDs in the calibration has been modified so that no tuning software will recognize the calibration.
We've been working on a few things to help with this.
A few of the newer ECU's cannot be read and this problem does not exist because we offer a virtual read that matches up the calibration to a stock calibration stored on our server. We are rolling out an option virtual read for the ECUs that can be read now. So in the case of a previously tuned car, you have the option to do a virtual read and know you have a 100% stock file.
Since this does not help on a vehicle with a scrambled ID, since it will never match with a stock file, I will show you how to generate a compatible stock calibration.
NOTE This will only work on serialized ECUs. In the Ford world, this means only the Tricore based ECUs.
The first step is find the serial number off of the ECU itself.
Next step is to head over to the Ford AsBuilt website. Plug in the VIN from your vehicle, and do the security check. Hit submit.
You should get a result like this:

Click download and save the .ab (Asbuilt file) someplace. Then open it with a text editor like Notepad. Once it is open, Ctrl+F and search "14C204".

This will get you to the Software Part Number. Select the entire string, in the above example its "HR3A-14C204-XC", highlight it, right click and copy it.
Next head over to TunerTools, then click stock file provider.
Select Manufacturer and Controller, then in the Segment ID, you want to paste in the saved SWPN above. You can skip the VIN. For the serial, enter in the serial off of the ECU. Then click request, and you should get a stock file for your ECU
Note This will get you a compatible stock file, and it will be the ORIGINAL calibration for the vehicle. You can tune from here, but it would be best to update to the latest calibration with a dealer tool.
