    SMOKE WAGON!!! Why?

As most of you know, I have been fighting smoke for a long time. Just hooked up scanner to see whats going on again because smoke is worse now that its warmer and I am hauling a little heavier. Can someone look at this attached log and tell me where the smoke is coming from? Idle is ok, just the ramp up where smoke is nasty.

Noah, just emailed you an update.

Pedal Mapping and Final Fueling (Main Pulsewidth Table) still need to be finalized, but this should get the truck out of the smoke-zone if those are even relatively close.

The main issue you were running into was your Smoke Table showing super rich AFR targets. You're now aiming around 20.8 AFR to 18 AFR by redline. Should help.

the root issue is how the tune will be set up and when i offered help 99% of it was not taken, i have done a ton of these in swaps where they are far more fussy. some at elevation etc and just did one not long ago with same injecotrs and ya it was a fight but got it dialed for the guy. many times when i'm doing something over and over and after a long time of doign the same thing with the same results i smack my self and try something new. no offense just saying you might be better off payign someone at this point. my world/life has been busy as heck and that's why i'm not here much anymore. good luck sir

Yeah, lots of people trying to help and it is very much appreciated. I think the tough part for me is not being near a tuner and not having enough time to test, tune, test, tune, test...... This would all be easy if these trucks could be tuned on the fly, but it is just one of those things I can only give a little attention to. I would be fine with paying someone, but it seems that it will be tough to tune for altitude when tuners dont seem to be as well versed with tuning for it. Im trying not to throw more time and money down the drain if it does not pan out. I have found a lot of people on the forums are often less than satisfied with some tuners and I am honestly a little nervous with loading a tune that I cannot first preview specs on. Additionally, if a tuner gets it lets say, pretty good, visibility would be locked out and I would not be able to make small tweaks to it.

The one thing that has not really changed much no matter how I tune it is the initial throttle engagement smoking. If I am not careful from a dead stop or I am in 3rd when second might be slightly better and accelerating, it will get very smoky. Seems to be no way to clean this up without completely neutering it and then spoolup takes way too long. So basically heavy load % at boost under 15 psi.

Otherwise, I am finding that some negative timing pre spoolup, some changes to correction tables, and reducing some fuel in places like no throttle fueling, are possibly helping. I have gotten it a lot cleaner over the past week with these changes and retained a fair bit of power. I need the weather to warm up again and then I need to haul the trailer for a true test though. I have attached a version of the recent tuning.25-05-17 15-41-02.hplNew Tune Platform 5-17-25-Tranny Mods 2.0.hpt

And by the way, the tune you assisted me with, very powerful. It tows like a beast, but makes me a little nervous because it is so powerful. If it ran clean at my elevation, I would probably be running it or a maybe slightly milder version of it though! Id be curious what it dyno's at. It was fun for sure!!

Alright folks. Put some remanufactured 7 year warranty Flux Diesel injectors in and went back to a stock tune. Result=no more smoke. The battle is over, for now. Now to work on upping the power in small bits from stock to get her in a good spot. Thanks to all for your help on this POS.

Haha. Was just tough to pay 2500 and hope for the best when the Exergy ones ran fine other than smoking out intersections. Went with stock as I didnt want to risk it being an issue of oversized injectors again. Still hard to keep smoke down if I deviate from the stock tune too much up here at elevation. Guess I will be running mostly stock at this point. Tough when you know the power it can make. A few tunes I made and had help with were really awesome feeling, but damn the smoke!!
