Got some logs with the 160* stat at idle and driving with 2 different fan settings. Seems like each setting runs about as often as the other on this 71* rainy day. Thought someone may find this interesting or useful. The mr gasket stat has a lot more temp fluctuation vs the 187* acdelco oem stat. With the oem stat the fans did not come on much at all with settings at 206 on and 199 off. 2004 silverado 1500 with a overkill sized champion all aluminum radiator and 07-13 truck fans.
Every 160 t-stat brand I have seen have been re boxed Murrays. Especially the pre 04 one piece ones. And they always ran 179-181 temps with adequately sized radiators and fan settings in my experience running them in my personal vehicles. I have never seen temp fluctuation.
It likes to run 172* down the road. Should be a reboxed murray as well. I was hoping to pick up 15-20whp with the stat and a x-pipe setup. On my dyno i am seeing about 15hp difference on average with a x-pipe setup in identical 5.3s vs a y-pipe. Ive had enough 5.3 truck norris builds on the rollers i can tell what little tree air freshener they have on the mirror just from the dyno numbers. Fresh shave scent dynos anout 3-5hp more than new car and black ice.
