    ECM swapping different years

I have swapped the engine harness and ecm from an 07 Trailblazer to an 08. Should I have kept the 08 ecm and wrote the 07 tune to it? I used credits on the 07 ecm, but I don?t think it?s going to work because of the vins. I have searched, but this doesn?t seem to be a common problem.

You will not be able to write one of those ecm's without GM programming software. HPtuners cannot do it.

I'd keep the 07 tbss a 07 tbss with the tune. No reason to swap.

I currently have the 07 ecm in the 08 truck, but the security light is on, and I got a no crank no fuel prime. So something isn’t jiving with the ecm/bcm I assume? I contacted HP tuners, but I was told their hardware is working properly so they can not give me any advice.

It’s looking like I am going to have to swap the entire harness/bcm for this to work. I’ve called all the local dealers and none seem very willing to help me out. The best suggestion I got was that I will have to do something aftermarket. Honestly that’s what I expected to hear, we don’t have any reputable dealerships in the area.

What are you trying to accomplish with this swap?

Place an LS2 from a trail blazer SS into a 1 year newer LS I6.

Posting what I said via PM, probably the best way is to run 08 ECM/TCM OS' and keep everything in the 06 I6 donor truck as-is. My working assumption is that will keep everything happy. I know the 07 ECM OS will run an 08 engine/trans/truck as I've personally done it, would I recommend someone do it - no, keep things simple.

I haven't done this swap so someone who has, please chime in.

It may have not been the smartest/easiest plan, but I swapped the body harness from the 07 to the 08 including the entire dash assembly and guts. So Everything is from the same vehicle now. It fires up and runs, still need to sort the Tcm out. The original 07 ecm ended up being dead after swapping, I’m not sure what caused it. Luckily I have another donor 07 with a v8. So I had a local shop write a SS tune to that ecm.

I’ve been watching blind squirrels profile hoping to see some activity, he’s been very helpful with me on this project.

Man this Gen 4 stuff is so much different than what I’m used to. I bought the other 07 trailblazer for the engine to use in a 944, but I’m Leary after all this trouble I’ve had. I assume once vats is disabled I will be able to use it as a standalone, I hope so atleast.

Just got on so I haven’t checked the PM you sent Erik but I do appreciate it!

All of this seems like a mess.

Can you just state plainly what the original goal is/was? One or two sentences only. Let's define the problem. Not where you are at now. You really shouldn't need to swap body harness's and gauges and all that. Keep it real simple.

"Place an LS2 from a trail blazer SS into a 1 year newer LS I6"

But not sure if that is the whole story though.
