    2010 gmc sierra 5.3

So I've been using g my truck to learn how to tune. The truck is stock other then a dod delete.

Ive notice that going up hills my throttle response is next to none. So I hooked up the scanner and noticed. That with traction control on my knock retard is pulling timing. With traction control off I have better pedal ,better performance, and no knock retard. I'm having a hard time understanding the correlation between my traction control and just normal driving.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to log all spark parameters available in the scanner and see what is actually responsible for the timing pull. Also are you sure it is not stabilitrack that is being disabled along with traction control?

I hit the traction control button on the dash and it disables it until I spin excessive tire. To my knowledge the traction control and stabiltrack are the same on my truck. I even tried to do it in the scanner and the same thing happen. I'll look here in a bit for all the spark pids log them on my way home and post the file.

This is my most recent log and my current tune.

I see upto 13.5 degrees knock retard...
The one time I had severe knock retard, it turned out to be loose motor mount bolts.

FWIW I've been running mine with 'torque loss runtime' of several seconds, instead of the .5 second factory default.
(engine -> general -> traction control system)

Can kick the tail out and drift on dirt and grass now (haven't tried on pavement), without having to press the button.
You might disable it for testing, if it's re-activating past a certain speed..

Thanks for the tip I'll try it. This morning on my way home from work i was getting all kinds of knock, so now I'm not entirely sure it is the traction control.

I don't see how it could be the TC. My 2013 GMC Sierra 5.3L showed knock with the completely stock tune on 87 octane fuel . It pretty much all goes away if I run 89 octane. Keeping the converter unlocked in gears 1-4 and locking it at a higher mph in 5-6 will also help with KR. by not lugging the engine at low speeds. I lock mine in 5th at 50+ and 6th at 60+.

I'm now wondering if running 87 is my problem. Because my knock is so much worse now after a fill up. I put a 1/4 of e85 in today to see if that will help with the knock. I'll look into the transmission..

Late GEN 4 trucks are pretty picky on fuel/timing.

I'd try a tank of 93 or a tank of E85 only if you have a flex fuel sensor equipped truck.

I think i got it! The E85 and transmission changes seemed to help a good bit.

here is the new tune file and log. It was either the gas or the rain.

go to airflow then electric throttle then opening rate and make that chart 100 everywhere for a better throttle in 1st gear

Set your 5th and 6th TCC release 3 mph lower than the lowest apply mph. You have the lowest 5th apply at 40 ( I would make it higher) so set the lowest 5th release no lower than 37, 6th release no lower than 57.
