    P59 issue

was asked to do a basic tune on a swap truck. It's a older 98? model, had a v6. They put a 5.3 and a CHOPacabra cam in it. The ecu they used is from a 04 silverado p59. serv no. 12586243 and the hdw no 12583659. The truck will crank and idle, dies on touching pedal. I found that the computer is a dbw and the truck has a cable throttlebody. Can't the p59 be configured to run either? If so...how can this be done? If I need to load the tune...let me know, it's on my laptop.

From searching around it looks that that PCM should have the IAC driver chip installed, your best bet would be to start with a file (write entire) from the repository that was DBC with a p59 from the factory, configurations can be changed in the tune and it might work? However it is unknown what other differences in software there are, and also the fact that not every parameter shows up in VCM Editor. Something important could be missing that would need changed.

You need to swap to a DBC file. Express van the same year with DBC would be my starting point. The vans with stabilitrak were DBW. So make sure the ETB check bit is not checked in the system options matrix in the Van file you pick. Then correct differences like the MAF curve.

Yea...after reading till about midnight last night...I found the options tab and unchecked (put to 0) the etc. Flashed it today, it worked. Fighting a e fan issue now. They have a 2 fan after market setup. Has a 3 relay box, that hooks into the pcm. After putting fans to 'aux', only 1 fan runs. Nothing on the other settings. Thats commanding it thru the vcm scanner program. I have the 1st fan set to come on at 180, it will come on for a bit. As the temp creeps up, close to 200, the fan slows down. I see no fan speed setting. They are gonna go over the instructions for the fan setup they have. I was wrong on the type truck, it's a 04 shortwheel base Silverado.

With the 3 relay fan harness they either both run low speed (command fan 1) or both run high speed (command fan 2). You need to configure the fan setting to 2 fans not aux.

It won't do anything on '2 fans' or anything but 'aux'. relays don't even click

Disconnect both control wired from the PCM. Manually ground the green wire. Both fans should run low speed. Keeping that grounded, manually ground the blue wire. Both fans should run high speed. If that test fails you have a bad harness, bad or wrong type of fans, or a problem with the power and grounds. It has to be set for 2 fans in the calibration for OEM fan operation.

just a update. The people doing the swap figured out the fan issue. They work now. Got the truck running pretty good. Has a wicked idle chop, but to me it's not great up top. The owner wanted the sound. Thanks for the tips...

not exactly sure. Something about the fan harness they bought. Said something about having to run a jumper so the 1st relay powered the 2nd.
