    L31 v8 in S10 TCC Issues

I have an L31 with the 14097395 ramjet 350 cam in my S10, mostly everything is working fine. I have a tune cobbled together from a wonky mail order tune, and stumbling my way through the editor to get it running alright. One of the last things i am trying to get right is my TCC lockup. Sometimes it decides it wants to work, and sometimes it doesnt lock up. I plan to get a professional tune done on it once i get better heads and 1.6 rockers on it. I ran a data log of it working, and not working. The one of it not working, i did not have the TPS channel selected to gather data from. If this is not enough information, what other channels should i add to see what is causing the TCC to not want to engage. Attached is the 2 log files, and the current tune i am running. tcc good.hplno tcc.hplNew Test 3-29-25-dtc.hpt

I wouldn't think that cam would register misfires (false) but as a test max out all the misfire tables and see if the problem goes away. 196/206 but the 109 LSA might cause a little lopiness.

Ok, anything others regarding trans pids. I can confirm it was physically in 4th gear at least.
I will keep it with me and capture it next time it acts up. It's almost 50/50 weather it decides to work that whole drive cycle

If the private message includes any cost for tuning, I recommend the original poster check out the previous post history before paying any money to anyone on here to decide their level of experience. If they were a total novice 1 year ago, they probably aren’t ready to charge money to tune. If this isn’t an attempt to get payment, why not post any help on here.

That’s fine but the PM thing is usually people that end up asking for money that really aren’t qualified to charge. Or a straight up ripoff.

Sorry it has been a couple weeks. Have not had the chance to drive it with the TCC issue going on, my AC needs fixed in the truck. It was working good for a bit, then stopped working again. The TCC no worky datalog is with the existing tune i have been using, and the express engine tune is when i segment swapped the express v8 engine settings to my truck, and copied all the settings from a stock s10 trans.

Doesn’t do much good to mix tunes and logs. They need to be a pair.

I can say with first hand experience, that cam atleast with 1.7 rockers does log low rpm misfiring enough to kick out the TCC if you are much under 2,000 rpm for very long. Above 2,000 rpm it was not an issue. I raised mine to 750 rpm to mask the idle chop in a fairly stock L31. I got pissed off at mine going in and out of lockup in Kentucky in the rain at 65 mph, used the scanner function to command the lockup on.

I will also add that a stock 1995 LT1 F/Y car cam is enough cam compared to the L31 cam to make the PCM log misfires at lower rpm too. Loose converter makes it log false misfires as well.

I'm currently running it with the stick 1.5 rockers. I read they there is a second to adjust the misfire table to help it ignore the misfire to let the tcc with correctly.

Have you tried forcing it to lock with the scanner?

I did that this morning. I have another log file, my TCC was working when i first left home, but i forgot my work phone at home so had to turn around. When i took off again to go to work, it was not working again. I can manually turn on the tcc and turn it off without issue. I do see a TCC misfire Off channel, i am guessing that is from detecting my misfires and causing it to not lock up using the logic like was stated before. Which window in HP Tuners do i adjust the misfire detection so the TCC basically ignores that. Another channel i see is TCC ramp exceeded that shows yes every now and then. I am guessing its mainly these 2 channels that's causing the TCC to not work?
    tcc work, then dont work.hpl

I adjusted the misfire table up 1.3 times, and drove it a few times, and this morning had it idling while waiting to drop off my step son for tennis practice and the TCC stayed working. So far so good
