Potential Tuner
L3B standalone
I have a lowered 73 C10 that I use for daily driving duties, but also camping/fishing trips. Plus general hauling duties for life/side projects I always get wrapped into.
In california we are supposedly going to have 2 refineries close until the next year with the possibility of $10 a gallon gas. My truck gets about 12 maybe15 mpg city, and a bit over 20 highway. Going to work or practically anything else in my life is 90% city. Which is fine with no payment, and the $4.50 dollar gas I get. I have nearly all the fuel injection parts for engine, but my mpg won't go up that much compared to the new direct injection engine swaps. So I would just re-cam the motor, and swap it into my Camaro. Where I dont care about mpg since its a limited use car.
So I am looking at alternatives if it all goes wrong.
My current personal favorite is the LV1/LV3. As my old 2018 Silverado crew cab had the LV3, and that thing was awesome. Great mpg, hauling, and towing ability. I had to get rid of it due to blowing out my knee, and loosing my much higher paying job.
Some friends have trucks the 2.7 L3B, and they are happy with the engine. Plus honestly its easier to get at much better price along with alot lower mileage. Plus if I drop it in my truck or the LV1/3. The mpg capabilities just go up due to the loss of 2000 pounds roughly. Especially city. Where I do the majority of my miles on a general basis.
So is HP tuners able to "unlock" the ecm to be used in a swap application? I see that it can be unlocked, and tuned. By obviously HP, but also Trifecta and BNR.
Has anyone actually done it? I have seen people talking, but nothing done.
I am also looking at a couple of other engines which I am not excited about so I can let my son can drive the truck cheaply on a insurance premium concept, but that's a different problem.
