.bin file suffix conflict with Norton Antivirus

I had noted a peculiar difference in both installation,
and .bin file opening time delay between my stripper
"tuning latop" and my "work laptop. I had conjectured
it might have to do with Norton Anti-Virus on the work
    one.

This morning I uninstalled Norton and put AVG back on.
When I went to open up a .bin file, the .bin no longer
had a file association. Previously double-click would
open VCM_Editor, but with a long lag and much slow
disk chatter. I manually reassociated .bin with HPTuners
VCM_Editor and now the .bin files open up, bang.

So you might want to make a doc and/or sticky note
about this for the benefit of those poor saps who are
    infected with Norton :P

Re: .bin file suffix conflict with Norton Antiviru

My file associations are lost for unknown reasons, randomly. I've made no system changes and it happens. Yes, I am also running Norton.

I am having the same problem.
After extensive diagnostics, I came to the conclusion that HP Tuners software uses .bin extensions and changed NAV and other .bin extensions as well.
When I reinstalled NAV, it still wasn't updating virus definitions and didn't recognize by subscription status.
My windows updates were also affected.
