?external PI fueling system?
?external PI fueling system?
You can do that, and I think most people do. The thing to be careful with is that the computer uses cylinder airmass for the spark table. If the MAF curve is flat, your cylinder airmass will drop as RPM increases, so you need to lower the spark advance in the lower cylinder airmass sections to make sure you don't give it too much spark.
When I ran MAF I kept a little up-slope to the MAF curve so the cylinder airmass calc would stay flat and not drop off.

Thanks. I was also wondering about spark table airmass behaviour. That makes perfect sense.
Now, with E85 I will need to modify MAF breakpoint even lower, which is fine, but how about Flex Fuel with Port Controller? I'm not aware any of them having FF sensor.
So maybe I will start with gasoline to have a baseline and then continue with E85. And finally have PI VE based on E85 only.
To my understanding, Weapon X kit has a capability of full-time closed loop operation, so after final PI VE tuning, maybe I should set so that it will allow -30% ... +5% corrections for WOT fueling, (indirectly depending of ethanol content).
So whenever there is gasoline only, it removes about 30% from the PI VE and with "pure" E85 it will use only minor changes to PI VE, if necessary. And between gasoline and E85, it alters fueling as necessary.
Not sure yet which kind of trigges I will need to use for activating PI (i.e what RPM values, MAP values or both).
Any suggestions?
The Reflex port controller software that is out now does know about Ethanol content and you can feed the wideband into it for closed loop fuel control at WOT. The Reflex kit uses MAF Hz to trigger the injection. It has settings for Throttle Position as well, but from my experience those are ignored completely and it only looks at MAF value.
Technically, you would tune the port kit the same way you would tune a car that is leaning on Meth for additional fuel. Then enable the closed loop portion and be done.
We’re taking care of it with our controller and modded OS. All your woes will be taken care of.

One of the main reason's I personally hate all the PI setups on the market. For a brief moment we had the BTR port injection that used a Haltech and the proper way to do it without something like Steck is working on is to scale the injector flow rate. If you double the flow rate it cuts the DI delivered fuel in half and the other half can be compensated with port fuel. This solves a lot of things because the airflow model is still intact which means the torque model will still be correct. There are some pump fuel flow axis that will need to also be modified but for the most part we have had great luck doing it that way. Kill the narrowbands completely and use closed loop wideband control from the Haltech to trim/modify fuel.

I don’t have any issues blending PI and DI systems???? Of course with fuel pulled from DI you must mod the VT to get the tq model higher to match actual power output..
My personal C7 uses a e38 for PI and have no problems getting accurate Tq model with the e92 ECM.
The VT can be a little pain in the ass, but it is what it is, and usually doesn’t take me too long to achieve what I’m trying to achieve with it

I run a MS3Pro for port injection. It has Flex fuel built-in so I only had to tap into my stock flex sensor wire to get the signal to the MS3Pro. I also have a Wideband tied into the MS3PRO so it can target the lambda I want. I run all blends of E85 (E30 to E75) and the MS3Pro has no problem getting my target lambda.
I now run my truck E92 in SD mode and MS3PRO in SD mode as well. I set the MS3PRO injector duty cycle to 0% up to 100 kpa and then calibrated the fuel table to ramp in as needed. For the stock E92 I ramp down the VVE curve above pressure ratio of 1 (also 100 kpa) to keep the stock fuel system around 5.5ms. PE comes in great that way.
I used to run the MAF too, which was ok, but it did not blend as well for the transition to PE mode. I actually stopped using the MAF because I don't run a catch can and kept fouling the MAF with oil, so I just failed the MAF, truck runs great now, so I never looked back.
I also use the MS3PRO for boost control and have found that controlling boost using RPM and Throttle position really works great and helps keep the stock computer happy.

I want a kit that come with absolutely everything needed to go port(including fuel lines) and you don't have to remove the hoodliner or lower the cradle for LT4 cars. Can't wait for the DSX kit to hit the market. I actually want it on my personal car.

Is it going to send the ecm data for torque calcs or something like that? I was just confused on the custom OS part. Had me thinking this controller was going to basically take over using it's widebands, multipliers and so on. I assume it's editable to a large degree and regular edits will still be required to the calibration to make sure the "base" is right?
That's what I was wondering on. Even thought possible PI tables getting added to the main ecu, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Thank You

The world may never know... The beauty is that there won't be any documentation for the OS mod.
