Arts & Crafts (Ruggedized HPTuners EnhancedIO)

I was a bit concerned about having the EIO interface flapping
around loose and breaking something so I made myself a
"ruggedized" enclosure for it with all of the inputs & outputs
brought to 1/8" jacks, the wideband inputs coming in on a plain
stereo cable from the LM1 and looped through to two mono,
separate jacks (like for running the LM-1 analog gauge) and the
two DB-9 connectors are also provided some strain relief (against
off-axis forces anyway) by the case. I got all of the parts at
    Radio Shack.

It's a bit bulkier but now I don't have to "baby" it any. Better
for a shop setting (or just plain old carelessness).

Radio Shack project box, Radio Shack 1/8" mono and stereo
jacks, Radio Shack stereo cable. I cut out the "keyholes"
for the DB-9 connectors with a special soldering iron tip I
use for plastic work, drilled some 1/4" holes, wired it up, and
    there you are.

Re: Arts & Crafts (Ruggedized HPTuners Enhance

so did you just get a box that is the same length as the HPT box and slid it into the holes you made in the box or did you actually have to get serial connectors and wire from the external connector on the radio shack box to the connector on the HPT box?? Could I get a better pic of the box wiring itself?
    This is a good idea
    thanks

Unfortunately my digicam has quit auto-focusing
(major bummer). But here's what it looks like,
    face-down on the scanner.

The box is actually a 2x2x4ish size so there's room
for the "pod" and the jacks.

    The DB-9 cables are still attached to the "pod";
I just cut "keyholes" in the box wall to snug fit
    the DB-9 body.

    Hey jimmyblue and foff667,
Great work! I want to do the same.
Can you guys post or email me a wiring diagram ( including which is a mono plug and which is a stereo plug) ?

Re: Arts & Crafts (Ruggedized HPTuners Enhance

mines a little easier to understand through the pic then jimmyblue's...his is far to advanced for me i tried it his way but i just couldnt figure it out so did it the easiest and cheapest way i knew how...total outlay of like $10 and about an hour of my time...i just soldered each line to its own "speaker" input...and then labled them on the top so i knew which was which...I left one of the inputs open so when i get my wideband I can do whatever needs to be done to get that hooked up...didnt wanna get too far ahead of myself.

Great thread guys, it definitely deserves a bump.

For the guys who did the projects, whose do you feel is the best setup and why? I really like all three and could use some guidance on which direction to take.

I also like the headphone jack idea, but the extra bulk and fact that you need to add jacks to wires that you'll likely keep plugged in.

foff667, do you have any issue with those small wires keeping their connections intact with your setup?

havent run into any issues as of yet...its very secure in there and all connections are soldered so they arent going anywhere.
