    The Eagle Has landed (BDM)

    Happy day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    err night!!!!!!!!
    err morning!!!!!!
    The BDM WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can read memory (not sure if its flash yet)
I can definitely write to the flash (through GUI). I havnt tried this. I want to be able to make a backup of the Flash first.

Soldering went pretty well. The 2 on the CPU were a pain. But after checking and rechecking I slapped it in my car. Ill post some pics soon (digital camera died so Im I using 35mm).

Hopefully I can ditch out of work early tomorrow an dplay somemore. Im soo excited. First try and all

Ill let you know as I move forward.

    OK
Prolly a sign from God... my battery just went dead in my car. I guess 3 hours is just too long to sit there with the marker lights and such on. Ohh well I guess Im done for tonight. Most def. better off anyways getting a tad tired.

Ending on a high note ;D

    OK I cant sleep
Who knows how to power up these PCMs w/o actually having to have them in the car?

It would be great to be able to do in my office or better yet on the kitchen table ;D

    Excellent!!!

I will look into an off-board setup for you.. I too would like to be able to flash PCM's with SPS with the PCM out of the car without having to buy the expensive off-board adapters.. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Re: The Eagle Has landed (BDM)

OK I succesfully soldered the BDM connector onto my 2nd PCM I am going to try to copy the PCM from this one to the other so both will work in my car

I think I figured out how to read the flash and write it

I guess Ill know for sure in a minute.

It takes a little while to read the flash. It reads symbol info and all. It file ends up being about 2 megs. It is in Intel s-record format. I need a converter so I can convert it to straight hex and then back again. That way I can edit it easier. I might just write my own if I cant find one.

Anywasy in about 45 mins we will know if this works.

Re: The Eagle Has landed (BDM)

No go on the flash. I need to know the base address for the RAM on the CPU (actually TPU RAM). As per Motorola it should be "$YFF000 where Y = M111, where M is the logic state of the module mapping (MM) bit in the SIMCR"

This is where I get lost. I found the SIMCR reg. I cant remember what it was though. $68f0 or somthing like that.

Any ideas. It wont let me program the flash w/o it. I tried just using $7FF000 and it says it uploads the little flashing prog just fine.. then it pukes saying it cant set a break point at some address. I actually cant set any break points.. maybe thats my problem. I dunno.. going to bed now though.

Re: The Eagle Has landed (BDM)

Yep. I took last night off though (needed some sleep).

I really need a way to power up the PCM on my work bench. I think Im going to wear out the PCM connector on my car (jk).

It would just be TONS easier and more convient to do this in my office rather than in my garage.

Also a piggy back plug for the CPU would be a GODSEND.

Re: The Eagle Has landed (BDM)

In one of my eternal searches I contacted both DigiKey and 3M looking for a "piggy back" or "Test clip" connector for the MC68332. Neither sells them for our chip.

For Future ref. the MC68332 is a 132 pin BQFP (Bumpered Quad Flat Pack).

I might end up having to fabricate my own .

Thats a great company.. Great customer support. Very knowlegable. They do have the piggy back test clip for the CPU. BUT it costs $434. :'(

I think Im gona just make one. Not sure how yet though.

Re: The Eagle Has landed (BDM)

OK I now have a bench setup (well dinning room table setup) for my PCM. I discovered the pins that need power to power up the PCM. So far I have 1 ground and 5 powers hooked up. I am thinking I dont really need all of the power wires Ill play with that tonight.

When I get it finalized Ill post the pins here.

ANyone find out what ever happened on this subject? It kind of died last year... Curious as to if the BDM was ever successfull..
I am actually following that path right now myself, but not to program flash on a 6883... something something... I'll actually be using it to flash 68hc12's... What I'm curious about, is does one actually need a serial boot loader program downloaded first... or can one just write to every single flash location with the BDM.
