you just need the dealer to flash it to a m5. You will need a 99 m5 vin# so they can flash it.

Here is how the HPT software works....
The OSID sets up the bootloader.
You have a VIN with the year model and make.
If you have a 99 A4 with VIN XXXXX then the bootloader works with XXXX OSID.
So no, you cannot take a M5 load and just replace a A4 load in the VCM if the OSID's do not match. If you have the PRO version of HPT, and the VIN year and make is the same, then you can load the entire M5 BIN to the VCM and replace a A4 load.
Now, if you have a Tech 2 with the SPS software package, then you can load the VCM with a M5 VIN car and get the HPT to read that load and start your changes.
