    wondering

Sitting here with credit card in hand Tring to figure out if I will beable to do this lol. Have pretty good computer knowledge. Wasted my money on a preditor. I have a 01 ws6 T/A with MTI stage 2E heads also MTI c1 cam and some more bolt ons. Havent been happy with the custom tune from Diablo since I put this together about a year ago. Have a few questions. Will a person that dosent have much or any experience tuning beable to figure all this stuff out? What kind of instructions come with the HP Tuner? Most of all with out the know how should I spend the money? Thanks for any help!

Been there and done that. I also wasted my money on a Predator. HPTuners is about 100 times better than Predator. But, it is not easy to learn to use the program. The forum is really good and the fellow users are very good in answering questions.

Botom line is that you have to invest a lot of time in reading and experimenting with the changes. Kind of trial and error. But, it is a worthwhile learning experience and the Tuner program is very versatile.

    Just my opinion!

    Re: wondering

It really comes down to wether or not you are willing to spend the time to learn it... this is a full blown tuning package... at first it'll blow your mind...

www.ls1tech.com under the PCM section also has some very good info

It's not something that you can spend a week doing and become a master tuner... it takes many many hours... making small changes and driving th ecar to see how it likes it...

Over the summer I probably spent 100 hours plus easily just tuning and driving ...

But in the end ... when you have that perfect tune... you can say you did it

A newbie can learn the software and what to change pretty quickly so long as you have common sense ... don't go crazy w/anything... small changes are better than large changes... and the scan tool is your best friend in the world.... it's the only thing telling you what the car likes....

I've tried the predators also. It sucked. I've used Edit and it's ok. But HPT is by far the best in my opinion. The learning curve is easier than edit and its faster to use and make changes. JMO

Thanks for the input! Man these things have come along ways for the old days of 2 and 1/2 turns on the old holly a/f screws lol. I think Im gonna go ahead and jump off the deep end and give it a try. Do you recomment getting the enhanced IO's for the 150 more?

    Re: wondering

if you have the spare cash to get the enhanced IO's and it is not out of you're budget to get a wide band 02 set-up such as the lm1 (just one example) then yes get the enhanced IO's .

You don’t have to have the wide band strait away but if you do plan on getting the wide band then you need the enhanced IO

If you have no plans on getting the wide band 02 then you don’t need the enhanced IO

You will be happy. Shit, I'm happy and haven't changed anything!! I guess I'm excited about the possibilities with the software. I too have had the car tuned 3 different times. My most recent tune sucks. I got tired of ditching out 450 a clip for the car not to drive the way I want it too. I've probably got 30-40hrs in just researching and reading done in the past 2 months. It's starting to make sense now. Good luck!! Oh, and this is a great place with very very knowledgable people.

So here we go...alot of reading (or should I say more reading) and digging so as to put what I read to what im looking at. Thank you to everyone and Im sure I will have some more questions in the future.

    Re: wondering

awesome... #1 item: read the entire instruction manual... may not wanna print it out as it's long (I think my last print out was 120 pages?) but it's full of useful info...

Eventually you'll start seeing how different tables effect spark and fueling in the car...
