Thread: MDS won't disable.

  1. #1

    MDS won't disable.

For some reason, on a 2014 Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L 68153790AK, when I change MDS from enabled to disabled, it still runs. I tried modifying the enable speed and it still stays on.
It's actually like the PCM isn't responding to any changes I make. If I disable neural network, it still acts like it is on and runs the same. I tried clearing the adaptions and dtcs in the special tools as well.
The scanner shows MDS active = YES.
I've attached the original dump file, the modded file (no trans contoller) and the log of driving on the modded file.

    Thanks for any help.
    Jay

I think the scanner flag is wrong. It never changes. It always says yes. There's no way it's going to be active all the time.

The weird thing is that at 10mph, the eco light comes on and you can feel the "shudder" of being down cylinders.
Even with enable mph at 125 and disable at 128.
Unless there is something else wrong, but it feels like when mds/dod kicks on.
I also tried v4.12.4 and 5.0.4 just in case there is a weird programming issue.

All the cyl. disable codes have been turned off. Did you do that? Since they're turned off, can't you unplug it?

Yes, I did disable those for a future cam swap. I'll unplug the mds actuator and see what happens.
Is there anything I can do about the eco light coming on and off that you know of?

Set the MDS max to zero. See the screen shot.

ECO flag will continue to go ON no matter what you do. MDS flag will work as well but the MDS will be disabled at the end of the day.

    mine doesn't on my 2015 R/T

Under "Fuel" there is something tagged "Lean Fuel" or something similar. I am at work now so I can not look, MDS is under that you disable it there.

Ooops I see you already tried that, sorry.
