I guess we will wait for Bill to respond but, Chuck I know exactly what you want to do, as all the stand alone ECM's I have worked with will allow you to set triggers and change the color of the display when the trigger is satisfied. I have never looked but, also have never stumbled across this feature in a stock ECM as they were never designed with monitoring the data in such a way as we are doing with the likes of HPT. Although HPT's does use the "heat map" appearance in the VE table, that I assume was borrowed from a stand alone aftermarket feature?

Bill, I assume the Core ECM is capable of such a trigger and output?

I think he is wanting to use a gauge setup inside the scanner so not really dependent on a stock ECM.

Perfect! I wanted to do this because its a pain the watch the AFR gauge while doing street pulls, so a warning light turning on when I go lean is much easier to see.

Are you saying one can use an MPVI from HPT with something other than a factory ECM or that HPT has setup input and output triggers with it's software? How is the gauge display not dependent on a factory PCM?

Forget I mentioned "heat map" or "core ECM", neither of those have anything to do with what you want to do.

He wants the HPT scanner gauge to flash at a certain reading. I?ve never really used the scanner as a gauge setup. But it?s there.

Maybe Bill was responding to abc and quoted abc's post since abc was asking about Core.

Hey Chuck, if im not mistaken you are asking for the gauge within HPT to turn a certain color dependent on whether its lean or rich.
I opened my gauge layout and settings for my wideband and mine works as you say. If its rich it lights up green, and if it hits the lean threshold it turns the gauge a red color.
Inside the gauge range properties under the "Scales" tab you can see I have:
    "Range Colors"
    Level 1 - green,
    Level 2 - yellow ,
    Level 3 - red

Then if you click "Gauges Layout" there are also "Ranges".
    Well I have my:

    level 1 "start and End" at 0 - 1 (1 being 1.0 lambda)
    Then I have my level 2 at 1.01 - 1.20
    And finally level 3 at 1.21 - 2

When my wideband would go lean the face would light up and somewhat flicker a red color.
Heres some screenshots of my settings. Hopefully they may help. If not, sorry, just trying to help

Sorry for the late reply, the flu got me but yes this is exactly what I was looking for. And this is for the MPVI and not CORE correct? And I really appreciate the help.
