1VD/VDJ79 Tuning for Economy Tips & Tricks
Hi All,
Thought I'd start a thread to share tips and tricks for getting a little better economy out of these engines.
Things like optimal:
- AFR
- Injection Events
- Timing
- Rail Pressure
- Anything Else?
In my case, i'm looking to save fuel particularly during highway driving, if for nothing else than better range.
2017 LC79 (Single turbo vdj), getting around 14L per hundred KM at the moment.
Obviously there's a limit to how much fuel you can save while pushing a heavy brick, but we can try!
Looking forward to seeing what people come up with.

Tuner in Training
I am in the same boat at the moment as per my thread https://forum.hptuners.com/showthrea...n-turbo-diesel
Happy to bounce ideas around here too.
At 100km/hr I am at 1500rpm, 22mm3 to 27mm3, 125kpa boost and -7.7deg timing on the main inj. in an lx450 ie.200series on a flat section of road yielding around 11ltr/100km.
I have just worked out the timing tables and what effects what. FYI, check out the upper right drop down in the main timing Max SOI tables and select the appropriate z axis you run at. this threw me for several weeks, as it defaults to the 70kpa barometric table and I live at sea level. None of my changes were showing until I changed the z axis drop down to 98kpa z axis.
Efficiency is a balance of boost and exhaust backpressure caused by closed VNT vanes.
Love to see your results.
