And, by the way, when someone gets scammed and asked for a refund, and the tuner turned consultant refuses to do so, they yeah, that person has the right to be pissed. Anyone you wants to DM me with their email, I’ll provide them with the documentation

    Hellcat Hunting/stalling at idle

    Hi Guys

Here's some short Datalogs of the engine doing the odd Idle hunting - when coming to a stop and then stalling
Hopefully that will shed some light on what's causing the issue

What fuel are you using? What is the intake on there?

Looks like a fueling/airflow issue. Make sure its breathing enough, I've tuned swaps before where the vehicle looked amazing, but power was down really bad. They had a tiny airfilter crammed into a box in the corner of the engine bay just to make it look "pretty".

    - Idle PID?
    - Tranny tune?
    - THrottle is always applied (based on log)?
    - Ambient Air Temp is -40C?
    - Lambda is bouncing a lot
    - How is your timing/spark table?

Could you share the current tune?

    Here's the current tune
The Air temp is a pretty steady 25-60'C - even after a full power run
Intake is custom - but very large and free-flowing - and it made excellent power on the dyno
Only real mods is an aftermarket fuel pump and fuel reg - which is a steady 62-63psi at idle - and up to 72psi on boost.

What i did notice last time - was after a long run the fuel rail temps differed from side to side - perhaps indicating a fuel return issue
So modifying that might be the next step if the issue can't be tuned out .

Is there a way to slow the return speed of the Electronic throttle - even fractionally would solve the issue

what sort of lazer temp gun did you use to read this fuel rail temp differential???

a stock hellcat does not utilize a return

it has one pressure sensor in the crossover, and no actual fuel rail temp sensors

Measured the fuel temp on the rail with an Infra-red gun
But was only to confirm what I could feel easily with my hand

One was ambient temp (around 25'c) the other was 55-60'c - So a fair amount of difference
Although............the issue still happens even when the engine is warmed up after a few minutes driving and the fuel temp in both the rails is the same (gets worse after a long run)

Being Transplanted into a 1950's Studebaker - its doesn't use the Hellcat pumps/returnless system

So has a 1200hp pump and a Adjustable Reg just before the fuel rails -
Fuel pressure is always steady - no fluctuations under load etc - Except for the obvious change in pressure due to the Vacuum fitting

i could prolly pretend it is a cammed car that is stalling and tweak the tune til it stops doing that but it is stock

    and stalling

that means there is a mechanical issue

wouldnt you rather find that and fix it before you put it in a different car?

Sorry - Meant Been not being,
Its already in the Studebaker - Engine was pulled from a Wrecked Hellcat.
Odd thing is - this is the 2nd engine - the 1st engine ran its bearings - but never had the stalling issue on the 1st motor

Engine checks out fine - Good compression, Zero leakdown.
Even swapped the sensors and throttlebody, injectors etc to see if perhaps that's the issue.

Will redo the return setup, Add a bit of fuel and timing at idle - see if that helps

What year and model Hellcat was it pulled from?

Do you have the stock read from the PCM, before any edits were done to it?

That's a good point - Cheers for that
Could be the new motor has some slight differences being a different year

I'll find out from the owner

both the factory tune and the current tune have the same filename

assigning the same name to both files can cause confusion

Its still running the factory tune
I haven't made any changes to it at the moment
Always have put it back to stock - after trying different ideas
Its a VERY expensive Hot-rod - so liability always a concern

Knowing what year donor the PCM is from and what year donor the engine is from would be helpful, as there were changes to both hardware and calibrations across Hellcat years.

The calibration details of the tune file you posted state the PCM is from a 2019 Charger Hellcat. If this is accurate for the PCM, and the engine was from a different year donor, then your issue could be MAP and/or injector characterization data ... as Dodge used different versions of these across years.

If you can locate the VIN on the block somewhere, that could help. Or ... better yet would be to check the physical part numbers written on the TMAP sensors (4 of them), the MAP sensor, and one of the injectors.

For compare purposes, here are a few OEM Hellcat tune files for you:

    2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Stock.hpt

2017 Dodge Charger Hellcat Stock ECU TCU.hpt

    2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat Stock.hpt

Was the PCM unlocked already when you were contacted to work on it? If it was, it may have been altered from OEM previously; either when it was still in the donor vehicle, or after the transplant by someone before you.

The log file you posted doesn't have much info in it, so it's tough to draw any conclusions or suggestions from it. The fuel trims don't look stable, but the log is so short it's really not enough to see what's going on.

BTW: Sounds like a really cool project! Do you happen to be in Texas by chance? :P

    Thanks for all that -
    Helps a lot
I'll check with the owner about the engine - as I'm sure he has the blown one still there
I'll try the other tunes too -
We unlocked the Dodge ECU- as due to having no traction control or ABS - was doing odd things on the dragstrip and shutting down between gears or over-revving
Changing the ZF transmission tune to the milder shift pattern (4 I think) sorted that issue

I'll alter the fuel pressure too - as that should help a bit too hopefully
I'll do another longer log and put more readings into it - if the tunes and slight changes don't help

I'm based in New Zealand - But long term goal is to move to Texas in the next 5 years
Our gun laws are getting more restrictive year by year and over it

yeah you can walk around packin a full auto m16 with a snail drum and no one there will blink twice

if you need help dialing it in at the track that is my specialty

the other tunes are for comparisons sake, you cant write them to your controller

i have whats app and can connect remotely if you still need help figuring this out
