    Another Rookie question?

First time doing this. Is it safe to assume that after reading the tune and saving it, do I copy that tune, rename it, make changes then write it to the vehicle? There is lots of info about reading, then writing but where do you get the file to write back to the vehicle? Is my assumption correct or is there a better way to do this? I don't want to screw this up.
    Thanks for the help.

Yes, Click "save as" rename it, but store the original somewhere safe, maybe even multiple places if you're anal like me.... Then make changes, at that point just click the save button, then write.

Do whatever works for you, but for me for example I tag the original with "_READ"

And the working one then gets tagged "_MOD 1" so that any changes afterwards I just change the number and save.

Thanks for the reply. I figured this was the way to do it but better ask than screw things up!

Well.... I managed to read it, save the file and make my temperature changes and write it to my truck. I switched to the VCM scanner and started the engine and watched the temp rise to the fan 1 temp 210* and no fan? I then waited to reach the fan 2 temp of 220* and no fan?? I went to special functions on the HP scanner to see if I could activate the fans and no problem. I have a fan overide switch that I used to cool it off so no over heat issue. Any idea where I screwed up? I have not written the original file back at this point.

Go to the particular section that covers the vehicle (ECM) that you are working with and post there with details of the build and you stock tune and your modified tune. No other way to know where you screwed up.

Thanks for the help but you've lost me? New to HP tuners. The original file did not have electric fans. 2002 Silverado 2WD 4.8 This is a 68 C10 with a 4.8 LS and a Painless wiring harness. We added the electric fans and a friend with HP Tuners set the fan temps for me long ago. I have that file. I changed the rad and shroud and wanted HP to change the fan temps. I have both files and the ONLY things I changed were the temps. After the unsuccessful fan activation I did another read and the temps are correct. Should I try to re-write the file??

Post in the GM v8 Gen 3 section so the GM people will see this. Some of the GMs have a fairly complicated control scheme for the fan control. The only way to confirm what you think you changed is to see the before change and after change files.
