VCM Scanner Play vs Record Button?

Sorry super Newbie here... I just went out and made my first attempt at logging some data. One question.... in the Scanner there is the "start scanning" button and next to it a "record scanning" button. I just did the start scanning and later did a "save data as". How is that different from the "record scanning"? Does record scanning record straight to disk? I noticed "record scanning" game me a buffer of 50000 but when I tried to stop recording after about 2000 data points my laptop crashed.

Anyway... which of these should I use and why?

    Thanks,

I was kind of wondering that myself since you still have to save it either way.

Record button is just a place holder for future functionality.

You will hit the red button and it will prompt you for a file name and log directly to file. This will be useful to gaurnatee your log is recorded to file without error.

If your laptop crashes, battery dies, etc. etc. you can lose your standard scanned data while it is in memory. The record button will provide more secure means of scanning.

This will be useful at the track.

Okay cool thanks. The help file mentioned recording direct to disk but it didn't seem to be doing that. I guess it will in the future!
