I have a 98 T/A, I'd like to put an 85mm MAF on, but the ones I've been told to use are for 01' up cars with a 5 wire MAF. Mines a 3 wire. Are there pre-01 cars that use 85mm 3 wire?

Buy the harness from Casper's Electronics, go for
the one that also hooks up the in-throat IAT as this
is a "true" air temp read and less prone to heat soak,
and problem solved.
I take it the newer MAFs have the IAT built in, thats what the other 2 wires are for. The harness you speak of makes it so I can hook up my 3 wire MAF connector and 2 wire IAT connector to the new style MAF?

Zuki,
You know that the IAT is being used for "happy knobs"? See this webpage > http://www.fastfieros.com/tech/what_is_a_happy_knob.htm
So, if you get the converter from the 5 wire plug to the 3 wire plug... Spoof the IAT with a potentimeter, or a simple 3.3k resistor will set it to 69-72 degrees.

That's the same deal as the timing trickers, and I had
made the suggestion to one of my buddies to implement
this (in reverse) with a relay to -pull- timing when his
nitrous solenoids were energized. That seems to have
worked out as planned, for him. But I recommend
that you leave intact the IAT and tune for ping-free
best spark across air temp (because it does contribute)
and if you want to add some trickery, rig it so you can
benefit both ways (environmental tolerance as well as
fun button).
Back in the very old days cars used to have spark
advance dashboard knobs. There is nothing new
under the sun. Just more blinking lights.
